Chrome Update FAIL

I use Google Chrome but I stick with a little older dev version because usually the very latest beta breaks too much (for example, the latest 4.0.237 turns off all the extensions again.)

My WOT auto-updated to 0.8 which will only work with Chrome 4.0.226 and later, but there isn't a Chrome 4.0.226 install downloadable anywhere I can find. I've checked FileHippo's archives and Googled extensively, and sadly no backup copies of that version are to be found. As an added bonus, you removed your links to older versions of WOT from mywot.com/wiki/Chrome and are only supplying 0.8 and older source code.

Please keep at least the last version as well as the current on hand for those of us who know better than to jump into the latest beta and break everything. Now I can't use WOT and I feel naked and unsafe when on the web, but I'll be damned if I go back to Firefox or *shudder* IE.

Are you sure? The latest version works for me just fine. What does it turn off?

Chrome handles extension updates, not the extensions themselves. It's not supposed to update the extension unless you are using a new enough version of the browser. We have set the minimum version for 0.8 to 4.0.226.0, because older versions had some Browser Actions issues.

Yes, because they no longer work with current development versions. Luckily, it's a wiki, so you can find older versions of the page. Still, I would recommend using the latest development version of Chrome.

It was a working premise made from a changelog that read:
" Extensions are disabled until the final API changes arrive."
and I know when I installed the latest on my Win7 machine at home this morning, everything extension-wise was disabled and I had to uninstall/reinstall an older version to turn anything back on.

As for the updated WOT, the icon (btw, love it being at the top near the address rather than at the bottom) would work for about 4 seconds, then blank out. If I closed everything and restarted Chrome, it would work again for about 4 seconds.

I'll look at both the latest Chrome to double-check whether extensions really are off, and ty for the page of older versions of WOT in case I have to keep using my current version. I do love the fact that removing and reinstalling Chrome takes about 10 seconds and doesn't break everything like some other browsers do. =D

It was for the beta channel and I believe extensions are really only supported on the development channel at the moment.

I'm running 4.0.237.0 on Windows and extensions are certainly enabled for me. I also tested with one of today's trunk builds and everything was working there too.

I agree, it's pretty nice.

The extension stopped

The extension stopped working for a while with me, but 4.0.244.0 (Ubuntu build 31558) seems to fix this.

Yes, the extension support in the Linux version of Chrome has been traditionally lacking a bit compared to the Windows version, but they're getting there.

I thought they were all on the same code branch, and just built for different platforms. So, Linux chromium is actually on a separate code branch?

I believe it's the same code base, but some features need to be ported for each platform (user interface etc.). For example, the pop-up window for browser and page actions was first implemented on the Windows version and didn't work on Linux the last time I checked.
