    Rateing Sites

Hi,all.i just need to get this right,i know sites need to use cookies harmless
ones, and im unsure about bad hosts.so i only tend to rate Trustworthiness and vendor reliability, when i visit some sites, A2 warning flashes suspicious host blocked and
tracking cookie warnings dose this mean i can rate the site in question as bad Privacy?
    or bad Trustworthiness...

    thanks for your time.........

    cheers.....................p.....................

    What is A2?

    Is it a-squared?

If it is then it is an a-squared False Positive and one of the reasons why I don't use a-squared anymore.

    cookies...

tracking cookies are used by many, for example: Google.
    That's how they serve advertisements.
To reduce cookies, in Firefox Options -> Privacy
I accepts cookies from Sites (checked) but do not allow third-part sites (unchecked)
as for suspicious host, that's pretty vague; my question is "who suspects" and "why?"

As for "why" a rating category should be high - middle - low is something you need to consider on your own, there are no guides or videos that I am aware of that could help in determining the "rating" since each site is different, with the exceprion of "known" sites that are either bad or good.

    Cookies

In a nutshell, cookies are harmless, some sites will load several of them as they have assorted ad links, stat counters and so on.
I use cookies on my site, purely because it allows me to look at my stats and see where visitors came from and which page(s) they looked at and which page they left on.
They don't tell me where they went after and contain no personally identifiable information.
So good and bad will have cookies, some very few and others with plenty.

Rating a site is a visual check as to what you see, what it links to, whether it is safe, contains malware, spyware/ adware or is linked to phishing scams etc. So all of this should be looked at with an open mind, you may not like the site itself, but it may be quite safe and should be rated accordingly.

With any program that blocks hosts then one has to look deeper to find out why it is blocked and you can get FP's with any protective application, they are not perfect LOL.

Cookies are easily deleted from your history, maybe use CCleaner to clear them out and then revisit a site and see what gets thrown up :-)

    Phishing and malware

Phishing sites are those that want you to enter personally identifiable information, and frequently start with a request to fill in your email address.

Malware sites: now many will download malware as 'drive-by' downloads, silently in the background, others are more obvious:
spywareprotector-2009.com - You can visit the site but do not click anything. This is a typical rogue application that users would download, purchase via credit card therby giving enough personal information to become victims of ID Theft and Fraud, and malware bundled in the download which will infect the users machine.

Safe surfing is better done within a sandbox and changes made can be seen in the main sandbox GUI.

There are also addons such as Finjan which will also look at sites in much the same way as WOT has rated them, showing if their are malicious links etc.

There are many tools that are available for use, Regprot which monitors registry changes, WinPatrol which has some very useful features

      when in doubt

If the website does not have any ratings, and you have uncertainty, post the domain on these forums by creating a new topic via Comments on websites forum
just use the name like so:
      example.com
this way it's not a live URL

If the site has been rated, view the scorecard and read the comments left.
If you're still unsure, again post it on the forums.

We're like buzzards, and we'll circle around the site as fresh meat for feeding.

          re: Buzzards?

          why buzzard was chosen.
          I'm in Northeast Ohio.
As a youngster, The Home of the Buzzard was the radio station to listen to, and I think they still play Magot Brain Friday's at midnight - not sure, I grew up, LOL
Also, there is a large roost in Hinckley Ohio

Buzzard, Vulture, Hawk - same thing

Or Dave, you could say the malware sites are road kill here, and thus food for the buzzards.
