    Windows Update Size

Me too. Except whats strange is that even the Windows Update version is the same size! Its usually much smaller via Windows Update.

    DirectX 11?

    Any DirectX 11?

Just MyWOT and SpywareBlaster, I guess... Found a malicious or fraudulent website? Rate it at WOT ASAP! Found a game hacker? Report it to the game's anti-cheat team! Infected with a virus? Delete it with an antivirus =P

      I don't think so

I don't think so. I don't think DX11 will be finalized until Windows 7 is or is close to being finalized.

    No Vista

I don't have Vista, but isn't it usually a good idea to wait a little while before installing service packs?

      Right !!

You are absolutely right !!! It is Always better to wait a few days , make that a week , to see if the "Testers" come back with some kind of defective OS after installing a patch or a patch for a patch. Something the size of a SP would demand that you investigate whether or not a program or a add-on will affect the good install.

My update , which is waiting in the Notification area, is 379MB . This is a Very big SP.
      TechNet : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd76762... .
If I remember correctly,SP3 for XP was around 65MB from the Autoupdate but, if you downloaded the SP from TechNet :
      http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/bb79471...
      or other Microsoft site , it was 318 MB. Actually , it's 316MB :
      http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa...

So I'll wait a few days to see If YoKenny has any problems to report.

    A Few Day's Wait..

I'll wait a few days for any major bugs that may exist, to surface and be corrected. Otherwise though, this computer will soon be a Vista Service Pack 2 system. :-)

    Windows Update

I just downloaded it from Windows Update, but left the installation without pressing next because I don't have time to wait hours. However, it appears that even though it said 343 MB, I don't believe that all that actaully downloaded. My total network bytes received didn't increase by that many MB, therefore, I think it downloaded 43 MB like it should but the text was incorrect.

      Well...

Well , if it's mistake or a typo then, the Microsoft Download site has the same typo.
      I just visited :
      http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa...

and this is what it says :

        Windows Update and Standalone

The one at the Microsoft Download Center is the standalone version, which should be that large. The problem is that the one from Windows Update should not indicate that its that large. Interesting how there isn't even a warning on the Download Center that most users should use Windows Update like they did for just about all previous service packs including XP.

          Standalone !

If you think that this is a big download, you should see the size of the ISO file in case you would like to burn a copy to a DVD because a CD won't cut it !

          http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa... .

I didn't see any warnings to get it from the Windows Update. For the XP there was only a mention of Windows Update.

What is also missing from this SP is the fact that MS is not offering to send you a CD or DVD for the install like the previous SPs.

    SP2 for Vista

I downloaded sp2 last night and all seems well up to now.Onlyone thing is puzzling me.Prior to this big download I had 37% used space and 63% free space. After download I am getting 24% used space and 76% free space.

The only conclusion I can come to is this service pack as perhaps got rid of all the old updates.Anyway everything is working fine if not better and appear to have more free space for whatever reason.(G.O.M.with Honours).

        Restore Points

Installing a service pack removes all your restore points, which is why you get so much space back. The only restore point you have left would be the service pack itself. This happened with Service Pack 1 also.

    Hey cod head

Actually , what it does is, it will erase the SP1 and install all new SP2. Now, whether it
erases All of SP1 , I don't know but I do know it does part of it. I'll let you know in a couple of days when I can get around to finding more about SP2.

      It is different.

      It is different.

There are so many components and features of Windows that each have their own updates and Service Packs that it is quite confusing sometimes even for me.
