What filetypes are you trying to open?

I don't use Zipeg I find the Windows built in Extract adequate.

Are you trying to compress files?

If WinPatrol is asking you then Zipeg is trying to change Windows defaults.

          Windows Extract All...

Hi,YoKenny Anything for an easy life. When i first got a PC XP windows kept saying unable to open? so my uncle said get a free zip file opener. This is the first time i've had problems with zipeg but i suppose with this pile of junk PC everyday something new can happen..I will try the built in zip opener and see what happens to be honest it never crossed my mind to try it so thank for that. I have just done disk clean and ccleaner but Winpatrol is still popping up.

          Thanks for your time...........cheers........p...........

New PCs come with lots of things old PCs didn't

New PCs come with lots of things old PCs didn't

Your uncle has an old PC so he probably needed Zipeg.

XP and Vista comes with a built in compressed file opener so that when you see a .zip file in a Folder its icon looks like a Folder with a zipper on it so all you have to do is right click on the file then Expand All... then a Folder is created with the zip file name with the contents of the zip file is in that Folder.

Installing Zipeg destroys this file association and that is what WinPatrol is complaining about.

.rar files are a different type of file so they do need an uncompress application like Zipeg and I do't like .rar files as they seem to be the filetypes use by malware so I am very careful with .rar files.

                Spybot Search and Destroy.

I am going a little off topic here Paul but are you still using Spybot search and destroy.Because I found the immunize feature did not play well when I upgraded to I.E.8.And has you have hpHosts wich blocks sites anyway it may be worth uninstalling it and see how you go on.(G.O.M.with Honours).

    Zipeg !!

Paul, why don't you use Revo to uninstall this software. Re-install the Zipeg and then using the Safe mode in Revo , uninstall again. this should take care of it.

    Revo Uninstaller : http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_fr...

Once the Uninstall is complete , Clean out the temps files left behind with either the Disk Cleaner in Vista ( Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup.) Once the Disk Cleanup has finished , Re-Boot your PC. OR with this Temps files cleaner :
    ATF Cleaner : http://www.atribune.org/index.php?option=com_conte...
The recommendations are for 2000 and XP but, as "Last Updated ( Feb 27, 2008) it is also recommended for Vista. I use this at least once every two days on Vista. Re-Boot after use.

See if this takes care of this pop-up in WinPatrol.

    Athlonite.

    Your help is always needed.

    revo & ccleaner should work

revo & ccleaner should work but if fail & if it've something to do w file association then u can

    control panel>default program>associate a file type or protocol w a program

& choose which program to open zip

or u can just right click any .zip file & choose open with

& choose which program to open zip

or if u know how to use regedit to find & delete Zipeg if all else failed

or in winpatrol options>view history & restore whatever changes...

if u happen to fix, don't forget to use ERUNT to backup ur registry in the future(its better than system restore)...

      Try it . . .

The worst that could happen is that the file type association would be chained to zipeg.

If your system burps on that, which I doubt because all file associations do is connect a particular app as the default to open that file . . . and if the app is not present you'll just get a request for an opening app . . . and not much else.

And you can then always intall something like 7Zip and associate .zip archives with it.

And another thing you can try if this WinPatrol thing won't stop . . . uninstall WinPatrol and then reinstall it. But if you do that, you should probably install 7Zip first and make the file association with it . . . so that the reinstalled WinPatrol will see it as the way things are already.

          like bob said install 7-zip

like bob said install 7-zip or izarc or winrar if u don't have anything that can handle zip yet, they can assoicate zip & many other archived compress file format...
