What?
Chris is, and I use this description with sincerity, an Internet legend basically. I think someone should dig into this claim a little more before actually following through with rating his web sites red. Yes he has called himself a lot of things but if you ever watch his webcast then you will understand that is his personality, A very smart yet geeky person. He has a lot of fans and he gives back as much as he receives.
I am subscribed to a few emails from "Geeks" and I have never seen anything in them or on his websites that would suggest he would involve himself in this in any way whatsoever. I'm sure he knows that he has worked too hard to risk throwing it all away on something like a pyramid scheme.
Edit: Well I found it myself. He is promoting this himself. I'm greatly disappointed...

Where?
I spent several minutes looking for the page in question, even googled it.

Well
Frankly I do not think Pirillo is an evil person for sure, he may just have fallen for this scam. If he'd only acknowledge this, overcome his eventual feelings of embarrassment and replace his article and endorsements by "Oops, I've been had for once". Until then I have no other choice than to assume he may be aware and is knowingly a part of the show.

Yeah, hope so too, on second
Yeah, hope so too, on second thought I feel that I'm being too harsh on Pirillo. He fell for it, they're mighty good liars and putting up an elaborate show. Quoting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confidence_trick : "Persons of any level of intelligence are vulnerable to deception by experienced con artists. Confidence tricks exploit human weaknesses like greed, dishonesty, vanity, but also virtues like honesty, compassion, or a naïve expectation of good faith on the part of the con artist. Just as there is no typical profile for swindlers, neither is there one for their victims. Virtually anyone can fall prey to fraudulent crimes. … Certainly victims of high-yield investment frauds may possess a level of greed which exceeds their caution as well as a willingness to believe what they want to believe. However, not all fraud victims are greedy, risk-taking, self-deceptive individuals looking to make a quick dollar. Nor are all fraud victims naive, uneducated, or elderly."

Agreed
Chris may be smart but that doesn't mean he can't be tricked, and as bad as it sounds I hope that is the case. I really don't think he would intentionally get involved in a scam. Especially the likes of one of these pyramid schemes.
I may have to submit an article at Geeks talking about the monkey sites. That would probably get some attention.

Chris
John, Paul, George, Ringo...
Where is there a "contact username" or "username profile/bio" ?
Where is there proof that the Chris you are thinking of actually is the "Chris" on that site?

this is not 1990
Hi Folks,
This is not 1990. If someone starts actively promoting a MLM-style product that really has no substance they pretty much lose credibility. (I can see a MLM buit around a proprietary health product or line but then the non-MLM competition will usually come in within a year or so. And if you like Amway or Shaklee products, fine, at least there is a product that is distinct.) Six months ago I had a good friend call me up all intent about a Net-MLM marketing scheme (maybe the same one, dunno), there is no way to strain friendships quicker than a dubious MLM, where friends morph to potential downline income streams.
For a public media person to shill in this way is sad. Ethically I put it on a par with that fella who was sipping tea and giving investment advice while having cozy deals on the side, now I think he is house-guest in Florida. Chris is a pretty young legend I gather, but anyway, this makes Lockergnome and Chris of no interest, unless he wises up quickly.
Shalom,
Steven -

MLMs in General
MLMs are very much like the general rule of thumb ...
2% of the people have 98% of the money.
2% of people in MLMs make a fortune 98% of people have their lives ruined.

Three weeks now
since Pirillo has been warned, but he completely ignored it. Apparently he thinks it will pass and be forgotten, just like that. Funny man.
Calling upon members to write to the press, on blogs etcetera about this scam (which is a part of a huge phishing scam) and mr Pirillo's part in it.

And another day of Pirillo burying his head in the sand.
Interesting news story about Three Stars, Monkeyjar's mother company

Ah! Some action
Pirillo changed his "How to Set up an Online Internet Shopping Mall" blog's content today. He removed the video (still on Youtube though) and replaced the Monkeyjar touting text with:
Step One: Get online.
Step Two: Sign up for affiliate programs.
Step Three: Post links to a Web site.
Step Four: Profit.
What to make of this? Very peculiar.

Who knows
That is a very generic guide he replaced the video with. It would be nice if he would have added a retracting statement instead but as long as he doesn't repost the original article I suppose that is better than nothing.

Confirms the thought that he was tricked and is up to something.

I'd like to believe
...that Chris is just doing some investigative journalism.
But I don't think he's that smart.
He struck out on his own, having lost ZDTV's corporate sponsorship, years ago.
Maybe he just got desperate and they're sponsoring him in a way that he hasn't disclosed.
Pure speculation, but a possibility nonetheless.

Plausible speculation imo
At least he can't say that he never was able to contact them. Trolling Debbie D. found that very easy to do, apparently.

Sponsorship
He still has plenty of sponsors and could probably find many more. His webcasts are huge draws...
I think (hope) he has distanced himself from monkeyjar. An explanation would have been nice but in reality he doesn't owe us anything at all. It still would have been nice though.

hm
I think by his remark he seems to distance himself, but at the same time he's kept the video up and did nothing else. Tries to be on the safe side either way. Merely promoting the scam when it comes down to it. He's a sucker.
Edit:
I noticed he put the vid on 'private'. However, his mall is still up. Why?=============================

Chris Pirillo pyramid phishing cheerleader
Chris Pirillo, who calls himself a "Geek, Internet Entrepreneur, Hardware Addict, Software Junkie, Book Author, Once TV Show Host, Technology Enthusiast, Shameless Self-Promoter, Tech Conference Coordinator, Early Adopter, Idea Evangelist, Tech Support Blogger, Bootstrapper, Media Personality, Technology Consultant, Thicker Quicker Picker Upper" is without a doubt deeply involved in pyramid phishing scam Monkeyjar, being the first (and only one so far) to have an own subdomain lockergnome.monkeyjar.com
See for background info http://www.mywot.com/en/forum/3615-monkeyjar-ponzi...
I recommend rating his own sites pirillo.com and lockergnome.com red as well.
