"hpHosts did an evaluation back in 2007 (where's part 2?)"
They disabled the keys they'd given me after I published part 1, so I was never able to do any follow ups :o(

Clean PC?
Why does anybody ever bother with sites that claim to clean your PC? There is enough legitimate software to clean your PC without having anything to do with any site that offers to clean your PC, especially those offering to clean or speed up your PC online.
My advice to all WOT users (and other computer users) is to completely ignore all offers to clean or speed up your computer. If there are no takers for such offers then the crims will probably get bored and give up.

Agree, but . . .
Yes, these types of sites generally are rogues or actually host malware. And your argument that there is "legitimate software" to do this (like CCleaner and Auslogics) is valid.
However, to be "fair and unbiased" in ratings, WOT members must take a look at these sites and evaluate them. After all, would we want WOT to just flat out rate any site that is not mainstream and claims to "clean" or "speed up" your PC without even looking at the site? I can see that slam headline on WOT: "WOT users rate all sites that claim they "clean" a PC as bad just because they claim so, and WOT users don't even look at these sites". That may make some sense to do so, as you've argued, but I don't think we want WOT to be so charged.
So, while your argument that sites that claim to clean your PC are valid, I think we still need to take a look at them.
As far as using that crap (showing my bias already), I think Google is largely to blame. These sites generally are listed as "Sponsored Sites" and are always highlighted at the top or prominently displayed in a sidebar, and when a noob sees that stuff they click on it.
(I don't think very many WOT users, if any, use that crap).
I agree 100% that users should decline these "free scan" offers, but unfortunately this is not reality. On troubleshooting boards that I visit, I see a surprising number of users that are indeed duped by this nonsense.

Quite true and to further
Quite true and to further add to why they get duped, look at the spam issue. How many years has this been a problem where spam has become a household name yet we still hear of people opening the mail and many even responding to, or buying stuff from it.
There is always two mugs ready to replace someone who has finally seen the light. Human nature, you tell them not to do it and they do it with more vigour.

I just noticed that. It is not hard for malware sites to get back a green rep symbol by spamming good comments. IOBit did the same to stay out of the red.

new to the site
I am new to the site, I was searching for information on this mycleanpc scam. I noticed your comment about Iobit. I installed IOBIT optimizers and anti-virus. I noticed problems with my pc after that, I also got a call from a "gold certified" microsoft employee two days after the install claiming my pc had viruses that they wanted to clean. I immedietly uninstalled it. But my computer has been sluggish sometimes ever since. Can someone point me in the right direction to clean it up? I have run online scan with Micro Trend. Also I use Avira free antivirus and maleware bytes to clean up malware. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: "clean it up"
I would suggest that you try using CCleaner to clean up the registry. You can also use CCleaner to check the startup programs and remove any that are unnecessary. It is also a good idea to use CCleaner to clean up the registry any time that you install or uninstall any software, otherwise the registry becomes clogged with useless entries that can slow down the computer.
When you have used CCleaner then it would be a good idea to use Defraggler to defrag the system drive. It is remarkable just how much a defrag can speed up your computer, and you should defrag frequently. I usually defrag at least once per week but for most users once per month is probably enough.
CCleaner and Defraggler are free (donationware) and can be safely downloaded either from Piriform or from FileHippo.

I have CCleaner, and use it daily. It runs automattically on startup. It's a great little program.

@ kbphoto615
You say "It runs automattically on startup" but it doesn't clean the registry automatically. You have to run the registry cleaner part of the program by opening CCleaner and clicking on the button marked "Registry". It is a great little program, as is Defraggler.

Is windows system defragger
Is windows system defragger not enough? Why download another program to defrag, I have never noticed problems with the one that comes installed on my Windows PC's. Also thankyou for the replies and help. I will run it manually from now on. Can you tell me what the wipe free space feature on CCleaner does? What exactly is wiping free space doing? Also is there anything thing else I can do to ensure IOBIT's not still slowing down my system? as I said before it is still sluggish, randomly non responsive programs that either take a minute to become responsive, or stop all together. I have removed all IOBIT products using Revo Uninstaller. But again, the laptop still slows up a bit sometimes, and it never used to do so. Thanks again for everyones help!

Re: Defrag
The Windows defrag is OK but doesn't seem to be as efficient as Defraggler at sorting out the occupancy of the data blocks. Also Defraggler give the user more options for types of defragging
Using CCleaner for wiping the free space just means that it overwrites the free space with random bits so that whatever was left on the free space cannot be recovered. It might be useful to wipe the free space after uninstalling software such as IOBit because it means that nothing remains of the software, and so it cannot reaccess any part of itself. Wiping the free space does take a lot longer than just using CCleaner to clean the drive in the usual way, so I wouldn't use it too often.
You might have already noticed that CCleaner gives options for secure deletion, located in Options\Settings. For general use it is good enough to use the DOD 5220.22-M (3 passes), and this means that CCleaner will overwrite deleted files three times to make sure that the deleted files cannot be recovered. There is an option to use NSA standard of 7 passes, and a further option for 35 passes but you really would have to be paranoid or in possession of state secrets to bother with these options.

RE: Re: Defrag
Thanks Jazspeak.
This answers questions I also had since I had my old PC ( on XP and with CCleaner on it ) crashed and bought a new one that runs W7.
Now I use the steps - Extra - Options - Remove individual cookies.
That seemed functional to me now I have to get used to W7.Raise the dike ! ! Or the internet gets flooded and ends up as a stinking swamp. / Message from the Dutch WOT embassy.

re: new to the site
@ kbphoto615
@ JazspeakThis forum and especially this topic: verycleanpc.com and related domains
is not about kbphoto615's sluggish PC
It is both rude and against Forum Guidelines to hijack a thread - Jazspeak knows this.
My advice is to try a security forum centered around helping users such as www.bleepingcomputer.com------- WOT Services Ltd. - gives us safety through Web of Trust. WOT Community - gives us security through unity. ∞

@ g7w
Of course it is not ideal to use this thread in that way but since a newbie asked for help, and since it wasn't really any trouble to provide that assistance, it would have been churlish to withhold that assistance. I think that kbphoto615's last response shows that by bending the rules I have presented WOT in a better light than if I, or anyone else, had immediately leapt on the newbie for breaking the forum guidelines. After the recent spate of abuses dished out by members who ought to know better I think WOT can do with all of the good press it can get.

sorry for being a newb :/
Id like to apologize for hijacking the thread. I did start out and seek this thread for the main reason at first. After reading everyones posts I learned IOBIT is not a trustworthy company and I was just curious as to what precautions I need to take, and/or how to clean it up off my system. I did not mean to make it about cleaning up my sluggish system. But I do know better than to hijack a thread. :( Being new to the site though when I went to send a message or board post it would not let me post a second time so quickly. Now I know how to post on someones board, I will do that in the future before posting on a thread. Thanks again guys.

I have took time to retest
I have took time to retest cyberDefender today. Some problems it detected (including missing handlers for file extensions, related to standart microsoft games on Windows 7 ) looked strange. some of the detected stuff was common one ( empty registry keys, etc) However, the program installed/uninstalled without any problems. Can't say that their intentions are malicious, but have no wish to test their repair capabilities outside testbed.
The claim that they will speed PC (at least a lot) is not true, and can not be true in all cases.

I've been hearing this one advertised on the radio...
It has a mirror site:
mycleanpc.com
They both offer CyberDefender - virusTotal scan
hpHosts did an evaluation back in 2007 (where's part 2?)
So...
Anyone know of any genuine malware / scareware / rogue complaint/associations for Cyberdefender? If so, we should rate these two sit4es red as well, maybe check into them a little more for other mirrors, subdomains, MX (spam check), etc.
/me tired - time for bed :-)
