If you would like to block
Flash content , you could also add FlashBlock for Firefox :
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433 .AND
in Internet Explorer you might want to add "Toggle Flash" :
http://flash.melameth.com/togflash.html .Athlonite.

Adblock Plus
I would definitely recommend Adblock Plus. EXCELLENT for stopping all ads. Even ones on web pages you want to see : )

No one has mentioned
Ad block Element Hiding Helper
It is great for fighting text ads, also you can blog an entire part of a page that you don't want to see.
But be careful as you can also mess up web pages if you do it wrong. ;)
If that happens just delete that rule from the list. -

Better Privacy
Another good one to have around (add-ons) is BetterPrivacy. WOT doesn't catch LSO cookies, and BetterPrivacy removes them. A good companion with Adblock Plus and others.
I has a youtube account: http://www.youtube.com/user/KirbysPetCat

LSO
LSO, Local Shared Objects, is the "super cookie" Adobe Flash stores on your hard drive. If you've never wiped them, you probably have 100s and 100s of them, easily. Better Privacy is great. An alternative FF add-on with a much simpler interface is Objection.
CCleaner, a stand alone app, will wipe them, too. And you can tweak that to also wipe out Firefox's places.sqlite, places.sqlite-journal and webappsstore.sqlite files. Heh. I'll bet you didn't know about those! :-)

Thanks for..
the explanation dallas !! CCleaner is a good program as long as it is used properly. I would not recommend running the Registry Cleaner (any kind) if you can't identify every one of the entries it wants to delete. You might end up with apps that won't run as good as they should or the OS might be missing components needed .
In Vista you should not clean out any of the Advance items unless instructed by Malware fighting Experts or MVPs.
Athlonite.

A good browser-based ad blocker
If anyone is using Mozilla Firefox (or any of Mozilla's products), then you might consider using AdBlock Plus.
Unlike WOT, AdBlock Plus blocks the ads ahead of time so you don't even see them, and are then protected from the malicious content from the start.
It uses filters from their website, or you can make your own filter.
Not gonna post a link here, but check it.
