"Minor edit" - is it possible..?

It's quite nice to be able to edit a post; after all
sometimes we all make mistakes, forget a word, typos, etc...

Here, such errors can easily be corrected,
and that's not only nice but also practical:
    WOTs forum is quite active,
new posts appear all the time.
No reason why people should waste time
guessing what the text is really about...

However, there is a small but irritating disadvantage:

Any kind of edit, even correcting the smallest typo,
automatically presents the whole post as New...
Then the whole thread jumps to the top,
but only to waste peoples time...

An edit should only be considered "new", if content is altered.
Not if only the form is changed. Here, I miss "Minor Edit"...

    Examples:

I have sometimes decided not to correct a minor error,
because I didn't want to present news that wasn't new.

I have also noticed, some people being suspected of making lots of unnecessary edits, just to keep their thread near the top. I mention no names, because, it's really hard to know whether these edits were phony or real...

    Suggestion:

The "Minor Edit" I suggest would actually be quite simple to implement:
It could work like the normal "Edit" - without the "New" label being added.

Location: Copenhagen, Denmark, Scandinavia, Europe. Languages: Danish, English (and a bit Norwegian and Swedish).

    Notice that too

phantazm: "Any kind of edit, even correcting the smallest typo, automatically presents the whole post as New..."
Yes, I have noticed that too. At first I thought it was something wrong with my browser, but then I realized what phantazm has pointed out. Can be very annoying.

phantazm: "I have sometimes decided not to correct a minor error, because I didn't want to present news that wasn't new."
A definite case for leaving incorrect spellings go. But that's annoying too. So echo on phantazm's suggested solution.

Re; "Minor edit" - is it possible..?

I see that this feature would be helpful. However there is a problem for defining small changes. It's either new after any edit or not. I can't promise to add this feature at this time, but I will add it on my todo list.

    Two kinds of new

Hi Timo, thanks for the swift reply.

There are actually two instances of "new":

The first is inside the thread. Recently "recent" was added to "new" - perhaps "minor news" could also get a separate colour, more insignificant, like white..?

The other is in the list of threads. If minor news didn't jump the thread up to the top, that would also help much.

in any case, thanks for the response! If I had suggested something similar to Siteadvisor, they would probably still 'think about it' several years from now.
WOT is a lot faster, and better... :-)
