MySQL - Sun Microsystems - Oracle

WOT, I assume, uses MySQL database.
MySQL was purchased by Sun Microsystems
    Oracle is purchasing Sun...

    What happens with MySQL?
MySQL has been Oracles main competitor,do they dump it? Do they remove it from the Open Source Community?

Michael Widenius has a bit of discussion of this on his Blog: Monty Says
For those that are worried about the future of OSS software as part of the Oracle / Sun deal, and the affect (both good and bad) it may have on their business, the US Department of Justice is encouraging companies that are dependent on MySQL / Java to contact them and tell them how the deal may affect their business. The more information the department gets, the better equipped they will be in deciding what their recommendation for the deal will be.

You can either contact the Department of Justice directly or send an email to me at 'info at askmonty dot org' and I will forward it to those in charge.

    And another thing...

OpenOffice is [was] a Sun sponsored product... what happens to it with this buy out?

sun microsystems and open office.org have been flagged.

Why has open office.org been flagged red in all respects? This is a great program that does everything microsoft office does, and is free!

    MySQL Petitioin

I'm sure everyone has seen the link at the top of the page to sign the Petition and help save MySQL; not just because WOT uses the database technology, but many other sources do as well. Think of all the forum software out there running on a *NIX server, the CMS softwares such as Drupal and Joomla (to name two).

I hope people who read this post do more than browse the site; please read the information presented and then sign the Petitioin.

    Signed! This is especially

Signed! This is especially important for myself as I'm a frequent user of MySQL for programs for myself and my school. It would be a sad, sad day if this wasn't stopped.
