Cookie from 3 red rated sites which ought to be blocked

Some weeks ago I changed WOT settings to block red sites. It seems to work alright as it already blocked some sites (advertising popups) recently.

BUT: Today a Norton quick check found three "Tracking cookies" from these sites - all rated red:
    ivwbox.de
    adtech.de
    intellitxt.com

I have not visited these sites manually, I had been surfing on another site with an excellent rating and I've seen no WOT warning or "this site was blocked" popup.

So these red-rated sites have not been blocked by WOT.
How is this possible and - as it is a risk - how can this be prevented?

    re: cookies

You can change how your browser accepts / rejects cookies.
In Firefox (I do not use IE other than for Windows Update Service)
    Tools -> Options -> Privacy
    Accept cookies = check marked
Accept third-party cookies = NOT checked
Keep = Until I close Firefox.

This reduces tracking cookies from third-party sites.

Also, you might be interested in removing the LSO objects, for Firefox get this extension: Better Privacy
BetterPrivacy is a Super Cookie Safeguard which protects from usually not deletable LSO's. It blocks longterm tracking on Google, YouTube Ebay and many other domains.

    FYI
Firefox 3.5.x offers the ability for Private Browsing watch the video

    Also

You can install a hosts file. It blocks a large list of malicious site, while also blocking ads and cookies.
My personal favorite blocks all 3 of these sites cookies. :)

    HP Hosts File
