Bad guys go nuts on SiteAdvisor!

"Presumably in an effort to undo the work done by us good guys, it seems the bad guys are now going absolutely nuts on SiteAdvisor, deliberately mis-rating good sites as bad, and bad sites as good.

    This user for example, who rated a slew of malicious sites as bad, and a few good sites (hosts-file.net, mywot.com and err - this blog?) as bad;

    http://user.siteadvisor.com/forums/search.php?sear...

How do we know who these guys are? Well lets take one random site they rated as good, mcafee-malware.com;"

Re: Bad guys go nuts on SiteAdvisor!

Sadly, this is one of the downsides to sites ... that allow user based ratings - they're ripe for abuse.

No, that's the downside of comments, and of course, trivial rating systems that haven't prepared for abuse.

I saw the fake reviews last night.
I hope McAfee will ban them...
And I hope they don't come to WOT.

      "Aren't those comments from mmartin42?"

Well, I have noticed this coincidense:

stop-bashers2003: "''Coloradochris' and his friends (Sharons, SpiderLover, phantazm) have defamed literally thousands of sites claiming spam, viruses, and bad shopping experiences from sites within seconds of each other. Literally impossible. No doubt this conduct will catch up with them soon..."

Spamchecker2005: "Actually, 'coloradochris' and his friends have defamed literally thousands of sites claiming spam, viruses, and bad shopping experiences from sites within seconds of each other. Literally impossible. No doubt this conduct will catch up with them soon..."

Am I the only one that find these two texts strikingly similar..?

I think we may safely assume:

      stop-bashers2003 = Spamchecker2005 = mmartin42 (= usinfosearch.com)

    Siteadvisor

I switched from Site Advisor long ago.. Just didn't cut it.. There is no way they are really going to affect the mcafee system even with 100 ratings\comments.. WOT acccels in this department.. I'm pretty sure any bad user who comes to WOT with the intent to screw things up knows it's almost impossible with this type of community already....

    usinfosearch.com

    usinfosearch.com
is this site rated fairly and accurately?

I do not go to SA so I only read about SA problems (flame wars) here on WOT Forum.
I would like some info please, without getting into SA site comments etc.

    usinfosearch.com - WOT Scorecard
is RED and is listed in hpHosts as a PHISHing site, Why?
(no links to SA, I need to see proof other than SA reviewer(s) accusations)

    Some simple digging finds:
    Search Google for "complaint + usinfosearch.com" = 0 results.
Search Google for "complaint + U.S.INFO SEARCH" = 0 results.

Checked for usinfosearch.com and U.S.INFO SEARCH with:
    complaints.com = 0 results
    complaintsboard.com = 0 results
    ripoffreport.com = 0 results
    Check BBB Online
Based on BBB files, this business has a BBB Rating of A+.

This company has been a BBB Accredited business since November 2002.

BBB processed a total of 0 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total of 0 complaints closed in 36 months, 0 were closed in the last year.

Checked with mxToolBox.com for spam blacklistings
    • Hostname: mail.usinfosearch.com
    • IP: 66.194.249.35

Checking 66.194.249.35 against 111 known blacklists...
    Listed: 0 time(s)

    robtex confirms mxtoolbox.

    usinfosearch.com is owned by:
    Mr. Marc Martin
    Martin Information & Investigations, LLC
    5330 E Main St Ste 101 B
    Columbus, OH 43213-2571
Martin Information & Investigations, LLC is listed with: homelandsecurity.ohio.gov as a licensed Class A Provider
    * Class A Providers are licensed to provide private investigator and/or security guard services in the state of Ohio.

Many .gov websites as well as law enforcement organizations not only link to but use the services of usinfosearch.com

Other than someone claiming to be Mr. Martin as a username on SA; aka. Troll, I find no negative comments on WOT's Scorecard other than those referencing SiteAdvisor, EXCEPT hpHosts's PHISHing claim and I need some documented proof of that.

As for me, I find nothing malicious with, nothing online that is derogatory to, no complaints filed, or any other negative result towards usinfosearch.com, it's subdomains, or it mail server. All in all, it's looks like a reputable and respectable business that should be green not red.

    usinfosearch.com
    66.194.249.36
    best-people-search.usinfosearch.com
    criminalrecords.usinfosearch.com
    free-ssn-id-verification.usinfosearch.com
    mail.usinfosearch.com
    property-records-search.usinfosearch.com
    server.usinfosearch.com
    skip-trace-search.usinfosearch.com

There is however a competitor called ussearch.com - Scorecard - that is listed with Phishtank, has many complaints online via resource I listed above and though similar in name is not usinfosearch.

ussearch.com deserves it's own thread, but is:
    LISTED IN BLACKLIST!
    abuse.rfc-ignorant.org

    Note:
This is not to be taken as a defense against infosearch; I do not use their services and personally could care less about their website or their business.

BUT WOT Scorecard ratings and comments should be based on more than pointing fingers to flame wars on another site rating forum. This is neither fair to the website in question, nor to WOT as a serious site security and reputation tool.

      ....

usinfosearch.com was found and blacklisted whilst I was researching ussearch.com (that''s how I came across it), incidentally, it seems I forgot to list ussearch.com (happens sometimes when I get side tracked).

Mr Martin banned my IP range from accessing his site, so as I told him, before I could consider it for removal, whether mistake or otherwise, I would need to review it - he's never responded.

Two different domains, owned by two different people/companies.

Based upon our conversation, I have decided not to rate usinfosearch.com

I haven't went through the experiences that you and other WOT Members or SA Reviewers have over at SA . I can understand how the unprofessional, more like childish actions, of someone claiming to represent a company such usinfosearch would dictate a poor review.

              True

It's funny that in SA, it's already Green, the rightful colour. It's too bad that people (especially me once) were dotting the site Red, but the whole reason I did that was because I wanted to help the right side. Too bad I was just another troll there. I blame security-expert-pressure. I wonder what is going to happen next.

Having seen the pages of adverts that SA removed from usinfosearch.com's
scorecard(and the ones still there) and Marcus Martin's abuse of reviewers,
I'm sticking by my original comment of 'Forum Spammer'.

Message to people who rate usinfosearch.com bad

I don't hope to make anyone angry or anything but I left a comment in SiteAdvisor for mmartin42, I did not give it a single rating, I tried to not make mmartin42 (or whoever it is) angry by threatening to sue me, and I do not wish to give it a RED or GREEN because to tell you the truth: I have NO IDEA why it should be RED or is it a GREEN website. I can't troll around and do not wish with usinfosearch.com for doing the right or wrong thing. I really agree with g7w with this idea of giving our most fair ratings, and not listening to what everyone says.

I tried to be reasonable, and it was also a last message to SiteAdvisor anyways, so don't hate me for leaving out one website not rated. I already sacrificed my reputation (like it matters since SiteAdvisor doesn't do anything anymore) and I hope either sides don't hate me for trying to co-op with it. I never said that his website was RED, and I NEVER said that it was completely GREEN too. I will continue to look out from this website, for now, my ratings for usinfosearch.com has been deleted.

Don't hate me the other 9 (or more) people who are in mmartin42/seektruth123's list. XD (the whole point of me leaving a comment in usinfosearch.com is really because I don't wanna be sued or be in his top hated list).

Since we decided to rate usinfosearch.com fairly (and trying to fix it), I guess that's another problem that SiteAdvisor would have to fix. Also, does anyone know if ColoradoChris is in MyWOT?

    funny

I'm sure WOT expected this as soon, as they created this system, but I do have to admit. . . This is pretty funny in the sense that people think if they mis-rate a few sites, theirs will magically be considered good.

12 bogus profiles, and that's only the present cases. If we add older ones, then we'd round 20, at least...

Leave the SA war on SA

If you go to the usinfosearch page on SA, you'll [currently] see:

      User Review Summary for usinfosearch.com
      This site is good (65)
      This site spams (13)
      Adware, spyware, or viruses (2)
      Excessive popups (0)
      Phishing or other scams (36)
      Bad shopping experience (1)
      Browser exploit (1)

Site Spams = no, it doesn't - Spam is unsolicited commercial email and this domain does not send spam, check all the spam blacklists, it is not listed.

Adware, spyware, or viruses = no such things on the website, this is falsified user reviews.

Phishing or other scams = 36 bogus reviews; usinfosearch does not Phish or engage in any other scandalous [scam] activity.

Bad shopping experience = usinfosearch clients are business and government entities neither you or me, nor any other individual can become a client, can make a "purchase," or can have a "shopping experience" good or bad.

Browser exploit = really, come n now let's be honest there are no browser exploits on usinfosearch.com

Reading through the first page of reviewer comments, one references a listing in hpHosts. The listing has been removed (read this thread).

McAfee shows the site "clean" along with all sites directly linked (looking at the cute green flow chart graph).

The reason that this "war" is enduring is that this ColoradoChris screwed up with the very first rating (which all other reviews seem to be backing up) and is too good to admit s/he made a mistake. We all screw up at times, no one is perfect.

Would all of these low rating reviews exist if ColoradoChris would have given usinfosearch a good review to begin with?

Is SA rating/reviewing a website, or having "forum fun?"

RE: Bad guys go nuts on SiteAdvisor!

I have it on very good authority that these were posted (screenshot) by Marc Martin, the owner of usinfosearch.com. He created three new accounts to spam comments on our site two days ago and we banned all of them as usual. One of them had the exact same user name he has used on a couple of other sites since then, cc1959a. Now, how does one proceed to flag these comments on SiteAdvisor's website?
