That would be very good. I would like to get more involved, but most articles are written in English, and my mother tongue is German!
Incidentally, this text was also translated by Google!

Good idea
Translation could be a good idea. And we could save some time, again and again, if translation became more integrated, and thus easier to get...
PS: I rarely used my own language here; only 1 out of 1000 would understand it.
English however is very widespread. at least in the western part of the globe... -

Now try to convince a Frenchman ( f.i. ) of that.

Re: Translation
We now have a "translate" link in all comments whose language doesn't match the site's language in Google's opinion. Clicking the translate link once replaces the comment with a translation, clicking it again restores the original comment. It should work for blog, forum, and scorecard comments. You can select the site's language from the menu on the bottom right corner of each page as always. Let us know what you think.

re: translate link
Nice!
Works very well.
Maybe this would introduce more users to the Forum; I hope a notification Tweet has been sent out. Also, would make for a good note to add into the next monthly newsletter.

We're still experimenting with this and I can spot a few rough edges that need polishing, so let's see how it works first.

re: polishing
When replying to a post that has been translated, the original language post is displayed, translation lost.
It would be nice to reply to the translated post.

re: Translation :: Automation
WOT recognizes posts that are not in the language that you have your [local] language settings pointing to.
Example:
My set language is English, so posts that are not in English offer the translate link.If I go to the bottom right corner of the page and select Deutsch, then the English posts are presented with a translate link, not the ones in German.
This is a "Manual translation mode"
Would it be possible to automate this process and store the Manual versus Automatic option as a User Setting?
[ Advanced -> Language ]Example:
If Auto Translate is check marked, then instead of displaying the link, the posts are just... translated. Also wouldn't a default language setting make sense available in User Settings as well?
Which is set at initial WOT install as the very 1st option, "Please select your language."just a thought...

Re: Automation
I'm not sure about automatically translating comments. Google still pretty often detects the language incorrectly and the translation could very well be less understandable than the original, but we'll think about it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Translated or not
Whether a text is translated or not, it should still be obvious if it's the original, or a translated version. Most times a bad translation reveals it self. But not always. So I would appreciate knowing if a text is someones exact message - or Googles best guess...
Btw, here's a whole site stuffed with bad, but funny, translations: www.engrish.com

Re: -___- i only see the main
Do you see a "translate" link after comments that don't match the site's language? The comment will be translated only after you click it.

Machine translation isn't perfect, but these days the translations are quite often understandable at least.

translation not work
Topic: Somebody can write in portuguese (Brazil)? [Alguém pode escrever em português?]
recent post: Eu tb sou brasileirano translate link on any non-English reply.
switch language from English to Portuguese and the translate link is displayed for non- Portuguese (English) posts.I gather the translation does not work "universally" meaning that the link is only displayed when the board language is set to the same language when the initial post (topic start comment) is made; all other languages do not "see" the link.

Re: translation not work
It's up to Google. If they detect the language and think they can translate between the detected language and the site's language, the translate link is shown. In this case, they apparently have problems with messages written in Portuguese for some reason.

Automated translators must DIE
I'm really bored to hit on pages witten in an _horrible_ italian almost daily. I think auntomated translation services are one of main curses of today's web.
I learned english at school and I simply write in english, stop. -

Re: Automated translators must DIE
The idea of the translation feature is that should someone write in a language that you don't understand, the automated translation may at least allow you to understand what they are saying even if it's far from perfect. I wouldn't encourage anyone to translate the messages they are about to post though.

Translation
On the right-side bar, there seems to be some available space.
I notice the Forum is receiving more non-English posts; this is good.
I find myself opening a new tab and loading translate.google.com
Google offers a "gadget" that defaults to page language with a drop-down translate to language menu.
Could WOT offer something similar and place it on the right-side bar?
