Re: Allow pages to use their own colors
Yes, Firefox doesn't show background images on websites when that option is selected, which not only breaks our rating symbols, but undoubtedly many websites too. I wouldn't hold my breath for a workaround.
If you can't live with the default Google colors, I recommend editing the site's CSS instead of simply disabling backgrounds. You should be able to do this with a GreaseMonkey script.
Edit: Or actually, it might be easier to use Stylish for this. There seem to be several Google themes to choose from.

Gray?
May I ask why did you paint the Google background Gray?
Just MyWOT and SpywareBlaster, I guess... Found a malicious or fraudulent website? Rate it at WOT ASAP! Found a game hacker? Report it to the game's anti-cheat team! Infected with a virus? Delete it with an antivirus =P

Avira antiv blocks access to WOT
I use the Premium Avira antivirus software which has a web access blocker to 'potentially dangerous' web sites. WOT is one of these 'dangerous' sites. It is only accessed when the Avira web filter is deactivated.
Do you know any way I can get Avira to give access to WOT automatically?

Re: Avira antiv blocks access to WOT
Please report the false positive to Avira, so they can fix it in their next database update. Btw, does it say why they block our website?

No. WOT simply doesn't
No. WOT simply doesn't 'switch on' when I Google something if Antivir's 'Web protection' is activated; if it is deactivated WOT functions as it should... but then I've lost the protection I'd hoped to get through Antivir etc etc.
I'll try to contact Antivir; so far I haven't found any way to give them feedback.

Re: No. WOT simply doesn't
Do you see a warning from Avira that tells you it's blocking something? I believe there should be a log of some sort that shows what was blocked and why. One thing you could try is whitelisting *mywot.com* to see if that helps. You may also want to post to their support forum.

Avira lets you request a page and then just shows a blanck screen with 'Done' in the lower left corner of the screen.
I've already white-listed mywot.com but haven't noticed any difference in Avira's response.

I've flagged the problem to Avira. Their online product blurb just says "WebGuard protection against malicious websites"... and "WebGuard examines if a virus has been installed during a webpage download or downloading data from the Internet."
Hope this helps.

Useless?
I'm not sure about "useless". Annoyingly bright and energy consuming? Yes, but surely not "useless".
I use invert colors, but it doesn't work well with MyWot. Actually, it doesn't work well with quite a few sites. No one wants to spend even more time than usual developing sites around an add-on used by a handful of the internet user base.
In other and shorter words, deal with it, or don't use My Wot.
If you had made this look less whiny, I'd be more inclined to sympathize, but frankly, I think you're just complaining because you can.

Sadly, WOT is useless unless the ugly default web page colors are enabled...
Here's a Google search with McAfee's SiteAdvisor and WOT extensions. The ugly default web page colors are on. Both SA's and WOT's icons are visible:
But this is the same search, easy on the eyes, with custom colors on (i.e. "Allow pages to use their own colors..." set to off in Firefox). SA, using its own images, still displays its icons correctly. But WOT's green circles are now no longer visible:
