    wot and tracking cookies

WOT uses tracking cookies back to GOOGLE ANALYTICS!
You are right. Tracking cookies are not pop ups nor spam. But this site has no other way to rate something like this "bad" without going into "malicious software" "Browser exploit" etc. which are true lies and not "soft" enough to rate the shame you should feel!
Sure. no one HAS to accept any cookies, bu the average Joe doesn't even know WHAT a TRACKING COOKIE IS (or any cookie for that matter)! And, your site does a good job of hiding them!
If you TRULY want this site to be on the up and up, why would you need to be so sneaky and underhanded to use cookies whose main purpose is to violate the privacy of the user on the net, tracking where they surf? Google Analytics, the one you use, is one of the BIGGEST privacy violaters on the net! And their main purpose is to track a user and send ANNOYING ADS TO THAT PERSON! Wake up and tell the truth to everyone.

    Re: Google Analytics

Yes, we use Google Analytics on our website and it's not a secret. We're hardly the only company who uses Google's services, but if that's a problem for you, tell your browser not to send cookies to Google. You can also rate sites on the add-on without visiting our website if you prefer.

      tracking cookies

      Hello Forum,

I have my browser to "clear history when Firefox closes" as stopping cookies from one particular site is rather going overboard, especially when Flash "super cookies" are tracking almost everyone unless they have have the addon "BetterPrivacy" installed . Just visiting a site like CNN, these flash apps run unless you have an add blocker on your browser. After visiting WOTS site a user can also click "clear recent history and cookies will be deleted that way, or run "private browsing mode".As long as the Internet remains a free service and websites charge nothing we will have to put up with Google cookies and such. Just my opinion but I'm sure others thing differently..

Re: Not to send cookies to Google

If you are using Firefox, Mozilla has instructions for blocking cookies.

do you want to block ALL cookies?...............

          No!
Some are useful and some websites won't even let you view them unless you allow SOME cookies! My point is TRACKING cookies. They exist for one reason, to follow you as you surf the net and target ads to your surfing behavior See my post on firefox and .ghostery. My main point here..........a website such as WOT should not be hiding the fact that they are USING tracking cookies...........and as is seen, most people don't have a clue what cookies they are accepting and why!

        Or

You can also use the "CustomizeGoogle" add on. It has a "Privacy" capability where it will block sending cookies to Google Analytics.

          But..........

Google is only one of hundreds of tracking sites. See my post about firefox and ghostery. *poof* ALL tracking cookies stopped!

      stopping tracking cookies

Firefox (a much safer browser than Internet Explorer) has an add on called "Ghostery"
Ghostery allows you to see AND block ALL tracking cookies from any website! It even shows who is trying to track you and that they have been blocked.

      of course.........

Google is one of the biggest tracking sites on the net!
The purpose behind MOST tracking cookies is to follow you around the net and see what websites you visit. Then they can target you for "specific ads".
I don't know about you, but I don't want to be followed as I surf the net!

i block all the annoying hit

i block all the annoying hit counter/stat counter/web analyz/ads including google...

btw, here r the useless google domain that might harm ur pc if u click their ads...
    domains.googlesyndication.com
    pagead.googlesyndication.com
    pagead2.googlesyndication.com
    adservices.google.com
    video-stats.video.google.com
    http://www.google-analytics.com
    4.afs.googleadservices.com
    feedads.googleadservices.com
    imageads.googleadservices.com
    pagead2.googleadservices.com
    partner.googleadservices.com
    www.googleadservices.com

many tracking cookies & java script can cause auto pop-up/pop-under or even browser hijacking although google one doesn't seem to do that...

    for IE,
go to tools>internet options>privacy>advanced & tick override automatic cookie handling, choose 1st party cookies-prompt, choose 3rd party cookies-block, tick always allow session cookies

& if ur virus scanner result is adware tracking cookie like yieldmanger.com/yieldmanger.net/edgesuite.net
go to tools>internet options>privacy>site to block it,

u can also go to google to search for all the variety of yieldmanager & add it manually to ur block list & that apply to all other adware tracking cookie like doubleclick or zedo

& while in any web page, u can also go to view>web page privacy policy>right click & reject all the 3rd party tracking cookies permently which'll then be added to the block list...

u can also use ccleaner to manage ur cookies or use spywareblaster, hostsman, peer guardian to block unwanted ads/cookies/sites...
