    I'm confused & lost

I guess I'm more computer stupid than I realized because I just can't figure out how to really use WOT. As a matter of fact I tried it almost a year ago, then uninstalled it several months ago but really missed it when I did a Google search so downloaded it again yesterday. Much to my surprise, when I clicked on the forum button, there I was, just as though I'd never left. Anyway..........I decided this time to click on every button, link, etc., to see what I may have missed the 1st time & found a video about being able to check a link in yahoo email but then in the disscussion of that video someone said it wasn't possible......which is it, possible or not? Also, the video went so fast that I had to click back several times to try & really catch the "how to do it" & still didn't, but I guess that's moot if what was said in disscusion is true.
Now back on the email I have sitting in my inbox.........it's one of those "click here" type that doesn't have an address but when I hover the mouse it does show where it points to but how do I check it out without actually clicking on it? By the way, the email is from a friend.
Sorry to be sooo long winded, I just feel that for a newbie, this program & even lots of the forum posts are too geeky.
    Thank you.

    Hello,

can you please post a link to the video you mentioned?

Btw, it should be possible if you are checking your mails with your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer or Firefox), but it is not possible if you are using an e-mail client (like Thunderbird or Outlook). Instead, right-click on the link, and copy the adress.

Do you see the text box in the top right corner of this page? Paste it in there to check the detailled reputation.

    Welcome back to WOT!

      Thank you FlyAqua,
After I posted I decided to check back on that video & had a heck of a time finding it again but finally did...... it's on the FAQ page but now don't seem to be able to find the disscussion part, don't know where I found that!!
Never thought about right clicking, are you sure it won't actually open it?

What does your last line, Per aspera ad astra, mean?

        Re: Per aspera ad astra

        g7w: "Per aspera ad astra
Per aspera ad astra is a Latin phrase which means "To the stars through difficulties" as seen on an Apollo 1 plaque at launch complex 34. The phrase is one of many Latin sayings which use the expression Ad astra."

        Very good!

That Latin phrase has its origin in ancient Rome, where Seneca first used it. When using this sentence in my signature, I'm actually not referring to the Apollo 1 mission but to its original meaning: Climbing high by working hard. Or, in other words, you can only climb high if you're doing something for it. That's not only what we're doing here at WOT but anywhere, in life.

(That's why I chose it, because it encourages to keep going!)

I just can't figure out how to really use WOT
    Don't.
Install it, sit back and relax, just let WOT work for you.

    As for how WOT works...
First your choice of browser matters. Internet Explorer and Firefox are the two that WOT is an add-on for, Opera, Chrome, Safari... it's simply a bookmarklet - so it's operation is entirely different. It's assumed you're using either IE or FF. :-)

Open your WOT Settings then click on the Searching menu tab
Scroll down the page slightly and you'll see a list of websites that WOT can function on, if selected (check marked). This list is:
    AOL Search
    Ask.com Web Search
    Baidu
    Bing
    Clusty
    Delicious
    Digg
    Dogpile
    Gmail
    Google
    Google (dynamic)
    Google Image Search
    Ixquick
    Live Search
    Mahalo
    Search.com
    Seznam
    WEB.DE
    Wikipedia
    Windows Live Hotmail
    Yahoo!
    Yahoo! Mail
    Yandex
    dmoz - Open Directory Project
    reddit

    So...
Whenever you are using Google, or Yahoo! Mail, or any other item selected, WOT will display a rating icon next to a link, llike the one for the Wikipedia link (above). You must use the web application or WOT will not work. Here's an example, you use Thunderbird for your email reader on your local PC and you belong to a couple of Yahoo! Groups that you retrieve email from via Thunderbird. Any links you have in your Yahoo! email are not going to display WOT icons, but they will if you use the Yahoo! webmail interface.

As for search engines that are in the list, no problem, any search result will display the wot icon next to a link.

When I say wot icon I am referring to the Rating Symbols

When you hover over one, the mini WOT View Scorecard notice appears - click on it to open the Scorecard and review the site's Reputation.

Naturally if you try to open a link that is orange - red in color, and your WOT Settings are at default (not customized) you will receive a Warning Screen in lieu of the website.

There is much more information on the Support Page along with video tutorials and recently, and new project is in the works, a WOT Wiki

    Welcome back to WOT!

    peace,

      I use IE7.
There's no yahoo mail in my list.
I guess my main concern is how to check something that doesn't have a WOT icon next to it like on a search engine......will use your suggestion of copy/paste.

      Thank you for your replies,
      'til next time,

        In IE8

Interesting. You're correct there is no Yahoo! Mail listed for Internet Explorer via Settings -> Shared.

        The list I obtained is:
        AOL Search
        Ask.com Web Search
        Baidu
        Bing
        Clusty
        Delicious
        Digg
        dmoz - Open Directory Project
        Dogpile
        Gmail
        Google
        Google Image Search
        Windows Live Hotmail
        Ixquick
        Mahalo
        Live Search
        reddit
        Search.com
        Seznam
        WEB.DE
        Wikipedia
        Yahoo!
        Yandex

The difference is that FF has 2 more services available than IE:
        Google (dynamic) and Yahoo! Mail

Not to sure why the differences...
But I know many IE users also use Yahoo! Mail.

          Re: IE

Not to sure why the differences...

The IE add-on doesn't currently support Yahoo Mail and Google doesn't seem to be testing the dynamic search results page on IE.

    I'm confused & lost

Hi, I'm new here and just trying to find my way around. I was happy to read this post because it gave me some idea what to do (install, sit back and let WOT do the work - I like that).

I've just been to edit because my signature was at the top of the comment. I thought it would come at the bottom? Sorry if I'm off topic - still trying to find my way around.
