    How and why members rate

Are members(or yourself) giving low security ratings
to websites because you do not like the content of
the sites? Or is it because of files you are finding on
your PC or other computer after you've enjoyed
    yourself au gratis?

A lot more sites are offering free content to the public.
That means I do not have to pay money.
Invariably, those sites employ methods like spyware
plus a bunch of other ways to get marketing information.
Marketing info has value. Do you really think you can
surf the sites on the web and enjoy free images and
videos? Do you feel that website owners are prosperous
enough to offer free stuff to anonymous internet users?
Because websites cost money to operate. Everyone
who has a site is not looking to make a profit. Some
only want to break even, then others want to be on
the NASDAQ someday. As long as the business
entities offer what they say they offer and do it
legitimately, there is no problem that I see.

I don't test the limits of my computer with workarounds.
I am not a security geek. I do run normal maintenance,
clean out files, check my updates and so forth. But if
I find myself achieving downloads from a site that wants
to download to only subscribers or members, then I don't
have much to say later. When I use plug-ins or programs
that breach a website's security, I might find my computer
compromised later on. We all have to recognize a
hacker for what or who that person is.

Anyway, I do enjoy free contents on different commercial
website and do it frequently. But I take all precautions,
especially doing disk cleanup on a regular basis. I do
a lot of surfing and have never paid for a single security
program in the last three years. I dare say if I used pro
security software, I could get away with murder out there.
And pay to do it, of course.

I can really edit my registry, since I don't steal secrets from
American Kite Company. if like Elmer Fudd, I be very
    very careful.

    I rated the partypoker

I rated the partypoker websites because they are as annoying as hell with their pop ups that cannot be blocked.

I question the integrity of IWON.com

I have played games at IWON.com for many months without problems and even won a small prize.
About 3 weeks ago I was getting "mwssrcas.dll" a P.U.P. (potentially unwanted program)
    per my antivirus/antispyware/antiadware program.
My program did remove it, but It came back several times. It was removed every time.
I found it was coming from IWON.com !
I sent them an email complaining, and received an answer to the effect "It is Not us".
LOL - sort of what I expected....
However, I have stopped playing games there, and in over 2 weels have not had another incident of "mwssrcas.dll" being loaded.
Coincidence? Maybe, but I doubt it.
Does anyone else have input about IWON?

Thanks for nothing is free scolding but

yeah most people know this. The key is consent. If there is no indication that I'm also getting the adware/toolbar deluxe when I DL that PDF creator; then the owners of the site are robbing me of the ability to make an informed decision and weigh the benefits of the bargain, while THEY benefit from my ignorance. This is called fraud, and I will rate accordingly.

If a site is offering legal "free" content then the owners better damn well be upfront about what they want in return if it's going to go beyond the some tracking cookie I'm going to delete anyway, a pop up asking me to subscribe to Netflix, or me watching a 30 second commercial every 1/2 hour.

    In answer to your query...

    > Are members(or yourself) giving low security ratings to websites because you do not like the content of the sites?

Only when I consider the "content" untrustworthy, or unsuitable for children, or the vendor who delivers the content has problems with their reliability, or when there are problems with owner of the site abusing the privacy of visitors.

    > Or is it because of files you are finding on your PC or other computer after you've enjoyed yourself au gratis?

I believe you mean gratis (free) not au gratin (cooked with a browned crust, sometimes made of breadcrumbs or cheese).

I'm a subscriber to both Consumer Reports and New Scientist, and I've yet to visit a walled garden (paid content) website that engages in drive-by downloads.

While I do enjoy good cheese or scalloped potatoes from time to time, I don't often find files on my PC afterward.
