    WOT Persona for Firefox 3.6

One of the members of the WOT community created a WOT persona for Firefox. Thought you all might be interested.

We rate the websites, the WOT staff creates, and advertises the add-on, and together, we make it all happen.

    Critique

I'm interested. It seems rather minimal which is a good thing in many cases.

      Personas vs. themes

      Personas is an add-on.
It was never "compatible" with most other themes, so it worked best usig FF's default theme - this has always been the case.

It reminds me of old IE5.5 with Internet Tools where you could swap the bitmap images for the toolbar background. I remember on was a walnut theme.

You can disable it via Tools->Add-ons scroll to Personas and turn it "off" or even disable it. It was "shipped" with FF3.6 as an alternative to themes.

I have it disable and use theme: Noia2 eXtreme

        Not so . . .

"this has always been the case"

The Personas extension has allowed users to use Personas side-by-side with 3rd party themes from the early prerelease versions all the way up to Version 1.5. Granted, Version 1.5 introduces a function that forces Firefox to restart and switch to the default theme when a Persona is selected with a 3rd party theme, but that circumstance has NOT "always" been the case.

          3rd party themes

I said, It was never "compatible" with most other themes
Basic themes Personas would work changing just the toolbar background and status bar background - which is all it does (and all that basic themes would do). But with intricate themes - Personas has never worked "side by side" since it's introduction .

If we look back in "history" and view the support wiki - as introduced in Google Groups back in April, 2009 - one of the first entries was (click the History tab and scroll down to the bottom for first entries, select (prev):

Common Reasons why Personas Don't Appear Right
          1. you are using a non-default Firefox add-on theme, in which case you can try to uninstall the theme.

So what's been done to remedy this is if you turn Personas "on" it automatically switches from your add-on theme back to "default" and then apply the backgrounds against the tool bar and status bar.

    Classic Compact

I like the Classic Compact theme as it minimizes the space between the status bars making for a larger screen area.Which is important to me on a 15 inch laptop.Classic Compact 3.6.0 available here.

    Eye Candy

Personas seem to be eye candy (not saying that's necessarily bad, if you are into that sort of thing and have the resources), while some themes seem to be not only eye candy but functional too.

For example, the "Noia 2.0 (exTreme)" theme, which I use BTW, compresses the toolbars and gives you more screen realestate.

Don't know if this evaluation is accurate though, since I've only 'sperimented with a few personas and a few themes.

      WITH

Noia 2 WITH small icons, which is how I have it configured, seems to be the optimum, though "conserving screen real estate" is only one element of theme functionality I'm talking about. I didn't mean to give the impression that themes are only functional as far as saving on screen real estate. There are other areas of functionality . . . just can't think of them right now.

    Personas are limited

Personas are limited versions of themes that only change the toolbar background. Themes can modify the entire layout of Firefox with heavy CSS, if needed.
