The activity score is basically calculated as Yatti suggested. It combines information from rated websites, posting to website, sending invitations and sending ratings.
The scale of the score is logarithmic. That means that your score will not increase by double even if you double the amount of your ratings.
The activity score is updated daily, so today's actions won't affect your score until tomorrow (or the day after that, depending on your time zone...). So, rate some sites and let us know in two days if you don't have a score.
It's also possible for the activity score to fluctuate slightly from day to day based on your ratings. That's normal and you shouldn't worry about it. Keep on rating more websites and it will improve.
This is kind of a similar question, does that bar below your score tell you haw well you are doing in relation to other people, or is it also logarithmic?
The bar is just a visualisation of the activity score. It ranges from zero to 10 000, which gives the full bar. The visualization is linear. So at 5 000 you would get half the bar.
The reason for the lower activity score is that your rating behaviour was so different from that of other users that our system thought you might be a bot or some other vice trying to manipulate the ratings. Therefore your activity score was decreased.
Now that we know that you are not a bot, your activity score should be back to normal tomorrow.
Okay, if Ertyno isn't a bot, I'm not a bot either. We're just really fast typists, with high-speed net connections, who surf REALLY fast... we're highly efficient surfers, yeah, that's it!
Nope, that's not it. The scale for the activity score is logarithmic, so the higher you go, the harder it will be to improve your score. It's also perfectly normal for the activity score to fluctuate slightly. Ertyno is the only user whom our system has suspected of being a bot lately.
Im not a bot.. i have 15 MB connection and i also can surf fast.. In my country WOt is not so popular yet.. most webpages are unrated.. Is that make me a bot?
Can you please explain to me why an activity score decreases? Mine dropped 30 points since yesterday. Prior to yesterday's score, it was 10 points higher than today. It doesn't seem to increase despite rating more sites. I don't surf the Internet enough to leave a rating for 100s to 1000s of sites. I wish I had that much time but I don't explore the Internet and interact with enough new sites to keep providing valid ratings on new sites a daily basis. However, I do try to rate sites as I come across them but I also tend to visit the same sites when online. I don't understand why this would make me less credible than someone who flew through 2000 sites just to rank higher with WOT.
If activity scores decrease daily based on a user's daily activity with rating or positing for wot, then it would seem to defeat the purpose of rating a site at all if you're someone like me, who can't dedicate hours to wot each month. I think the vast majority of web users (young adults & up) don't surf around that much either, but are more creatures of habit in visiting the same sites over & over.
I like wot, but I'm feeling discouraged by it. My friends already quit using it because they felt that ratings expire too quickly and it's too difficult to keep up activity to remain credible within WOT's calculation. Personally, I think each user should have a valid vote and that collective ratings over an extended period should mean more than a couple weeks of new ratings. Perhaps, I'm just assuming too much right now about why my rating hasn't increased with new ratings & posts. I saw an increase yesterday for the first time in a long time, but 24 hours later, it dropped even lower than last week. My friends had the same experience, so they lost interest in WOT already after just 3-4 months of use.
The activity score can fluctuate slightly from day to day, it's nothing to be worried about. Your ratings won't expire and you don't have to be active every day for the score to stay up. If you keep rating more sites, your activity score will improve over time.
Leaving comments on the scorecard also improves your activity score, so if you don't usually visit that many new sites, you can improve your score by giving more detailed reviews for the sites you have already rated.
What are the different levels? I know there is platinum and some other stuff, but what is the order, and what are the benefits of growing to different levels?
Jeremiah
Here's a list of all the user levels. When you reach Gold level, you'll get access to the mass rating tool, but other than that, I suppose the only other benefit at the moment is the respect of your fellow users. :)
what are the benefits of growing to different levels?
Must there be concrete benefits? I for one am not doing this for any concrete benefits.
I am not completely altruistic, however =) I learn while potentially helping others, and I am hopefully building a certain reputation for my nick :) Also, the knowledge I gather while participating will hopefully be beneficial to my future career.
Plus the virtual interaction with other users in forums like these can be quite stimulating on occasion.
Cool!! Liking the activity score :) ...
