Wed 25 Jun 2008 05:26:57 AM UTC — PikadudeNo1Filterset.G actually shouldn't be used. See:
http://adblockplus.org/en/faq_project#filterset.g
As for what is useful, I like Controle de Scripts (for better control over JavaScript) and MR Tech Toolkit (a plethora of tools mostly related to add-ons).
Script blockers

Sat 28 Jun 2008 04:18:05 PM UTC — lordpakeI'd like to add one imho very useful extension to the list: Firekeeper. Although in alpha stage, I do find the concept interesting to say the least.
From the site: "It is able to detect, block and warn the user about malicious sites. Firekeeper uses flexible rules similar to Snort ones to describe browser based attack attempts. Rules can also be used to effectively filter different kinds of unwanted content."
You can also use it conjuction with malware blocklist, that has up-to-date list about malware-spreading domains.

and what about Noscript?
Sat 28 Jun 2008 09:22:34 PM UTC — DiazruanovaYou are missing Noscript, that is a must have to surf the web in the most safe way. With Noscript well configured, anyone can surf almost any place, even some very dangerous ones.
No Script not included..
Fri 24 Oct 2008 05:07:40 PM UTC — Yatti420I hadn't included No Script at the time due to me not really using it.. I've yet to find a way to configure it that will not destroy my browsing.

Not recommending you ditch it . . .
Sat 25 Oct 2008 02:16:12 PM UTC — BobJamWhile I'm not recommending you ditch NoScript (indeed, I use it myself and have that same bothersome interference with surfing), I saw something that someone said in a newsgroup that seems to apply to this situation:
"
Between the extremes of caution and blissful ignorance, there is some comfort point, which will be different for everyone. I choose to run some risks, if they entail compensatory advantages, while avoiding others."No size fits all...
Sat 25 Oct 2008 02:44:26 PM UTC — phantazmI wouldn't recommend NoScript to newbies, as it is not a simple solution. It keeps asking: is this ok? Do you allow that? And if you have no clues, this is merely irritating. Adblocker is simple solution, however, it is not as efficient...
Another good one!
Thu 03 Jul 2008 04:33:10 PM UTC — lucky1Another good one for FireFox is key scrambler but it doesn't seem to be available for FF3 yet. If anyone knows how to install it, let me know
NoScript is awesome. My
Thu 03 Jul 2008 08:50:05 PM UTC — MissMimiNoScript is awesome. My browser is much faster now that I use it.
NoScript indeed!
Fri 04 Jul 2008 09:40:16 PM UTC — phantazmIf I should recommend only one addon to FireFox, it would be NoScript
Firefox Addons
Sat 27 Sep 2008 01:27:52 AM UTC — Security_WizI use WOT, Ad-Block-Plus, NoScript, and Finjan SecureBrowsing. And as for themes, the default Firelight theme, and I'm testing Chromifox and a Cat theme. So far, the red/blue cat theme is the best, and Chromifox is nice and clean.
However, I'm on a Mac so I might take off Finjan SecureBrowsing or disable it for a little while.
I keep telling myself that all these addons will slow down Firefox, but now I'm not worried at all, especially compared to Yatti420. xD
Firefox extensions
Fri 03 Oct 2008 08:29:54 PM UTC — terrysparanoidI agree, I useAd-block-plus, NoScript and of course WOT but I can also recommend Flagfox, it jumps in and tells you that even though this is .co.uk it is actually in Canada or wherever and other interesting stuff like whois etc. and also the Alexa Sparky to find out whats linking in, you can find out all sorts of things. and no I’m not really paranoid just careful. enjoy.
I am now using FlagFox..
Fri 24 Oct 2008 05:08:24 PM UTC — Yatti420Thanks... Added about a month or two ago when it was an featured add-on.

Fri 10 Oct 2008 11:57:59 PM UTC — FreedomstarSome security add-ons I use are WOT, NoScript, Adblocker Plus, Phishtank SiteChecker, Locationbar², and Flagfox. NoScript and WOT are especially helpful to me and Locationbar² puts emphasis on the domain which is extremely helpful when avoiding Phishing Sites which often use a long chain of sub-domains. I also use a number of others such as Ctrl-Tab, IE Tab, etc...
I'm addicted to FF add-ons but
Mon 20 Oct 2008 05:02:30 PM UTC — plasticmadnessi've been trying to be careful with my enthusiasm after my brother-in-law, who is a developer, warned me that some of the extensions are pretty hackable (but he didn't mean any of the major, recomended ones), but i have never really had any problem about safety of extensions. The only thing is they can cause bugs sometimes, but that's just the nature of softwares itself :-P
I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT:
#1: image toolbar (there are several add-ons with this name, this one specificaly is by Ben Basson from cusser.net, and reproduces a feature that has previously been in the core of old IE, ultimately ditched, which consisted of a little toolbar that appeared on the top corner of a picture on mouse-over, allowing you to directly save the image to a predetermined folder without the prompt window. this is like a HUGE time-saver, probably the greatest time saver ever. I don't understand why IE ditched it.
#2: adblock plus / adblock filterset.G
#3: noscript
#4 WOT
(no comments needed on the 3 above) ;-)
#5: DownThem All!: allows batch download filtered by extensions. I like it better than flashgot, download helper or any other firefoz dl. manager.
#6 Customize Google
I can live without them, but they would be very missed, and their absence would make my job much harder:
#1 Flagfox: adds either to the searchbar or taskbar a flag, indicating the country where the is the server that hosts the site. when you mouse-over the flag, it shows the the site's IP number and allows you to research on whois or related sites. Since it promptly shows the IP it's a very handy tool in case you use proxywebs and proxy sites for any purpose.
#2 FoxyTunes
# 3 ScribeFire
#4 Text Formatting Toolbar, by Michael Buckley
#5 Show my IP by Michael Klaus: keeps your own IP number visible in the taskbar.
#6 Piclens and CoolIris Previews
#7 Chatzilla
#8 Secure Password Generator by Jeremy Gillick: because you should never use the same password for every site! And make sure you go old school and write it down in paper afterwards. And then put the paper locked in a safe. Paranoid enough for ya?? :-P hehe
#9 Foxy Proxy
Can anyone answer this please?
Sat 25 Oct 2008 08:16:04 PM UTC — stuI've switched to Comodo firewall, and every so often it pops up with "Firefox.exe is trying to access the internet". I've never seen or heard of this before, Spyware and anti-virus don't show anything, but I've googled it and have found that on some web sites say it's a safe program and others are saying it's not . . . does anyone know anything about it?
I'd be grateful for the help, thanks.
Comodo + Firefox.exe
Sat 25 Oct 2008 09:29:41 PM UTC — JTBLook at Firefox.exe always open: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox.exe_always_open
Symptoms: # Firewall alerts that Firefox is trying to connect to an unrequested IP address on a remote port (typically Port 3460, which is Poison Ivy's default Port setting - though any Port# may have been chosen).
The problem can be with an extension/addon for Firefox.

Comodo Firewall
Thu 06 Nov 2008 04:29:09 PM UTC — JazspeakI tried the Comodo firewall but I found that, although it seemed to be effective, it was not as easy to configure the program permissions as I had hoped. I returned to using the ZoneAlarm firewall because of the ease of setting permissions for programs and the ZoneAlarm firewall seems to be safe enough. I have switched from using AVG8 antivirus to the Comodo antivirus because the Comodo antivirus uses much less in the way of resources and seems to be effective enough, and there are none of the annoying messages that accompany the AVG updates.
