    When good sites go... bad..

    Hi~

For my first post here in the WOT community, I offer this topic for our enjoyment.

If you remember the very lame Fox television shows in the mid to late 90's like

    'When good pets go bad'
'When good pets go bad 2'
'When good pets go bad 3'
And all of the other 'exploit' type clip shows they have shown.

Then you will understand this format!

It's simple, let's name as many *former* good websites that sadly have gone......

BAD. As in evil, cruel, terrible, demented, perverted, warped, Heath Ledger's Joker, nasty, sadistic.. you get the idea..

It can also be sites that while they used to be good, have gone to the dark side - but are NOT evil, cruel, terrible, demented, perverted, warped, Heath Ledger's Joker, nasty, sadistic..

For example, let's take Napster. Like some of you here I am sure I enjoyed using Napster when it was in it's original form - in mid 2000. While I was on dial up, it was as if the entire library of music was available to me for free! Well, it sort of was..

But you get the idea! Napster and it's client software was a dream. All of a sudden I could download several remixes of 'Ice Ice Baby', then I could download the season 3 Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers intro theme song, and finish it up with some Madonna crap.

But then.. Napster became too big. People spread the word, and the word finally reached the RIAA. They were in total fear as to how easy it was now to steal their music. They went nuts, and attacked Napster to the point where Mr. Fanning had to cave in.

Napster was relaunched months later - but was crippled. It was a mere shell of it's former self. As more and more versions of the new Napster came out, the wonderful charm of the first versions faded, and then vanished.

Now you can see the result of these events at Napster's website.

So to me Napster the site, and Napster the software have gone to the dark side, have turned bad in a way.

This is what I am trying to get at! What would be really entertaining for all is if you list sites that used to be good and/or popular, but now are only there to infect you and push adware laden with rootkits.

    Have fun!

P2P in general has gone bad

P2P in general has gone bad now. I'll say Gnutella used to also be really good, then people realised that you could return results for and query with fake files.

Now at least 50% of the files are fake.

    GaiaOnline

It used to be great, well, in a way, it was always great, but there was a point at which trying to make everything "user friendly" became "NEW user friendly" and it just kept getting worse.
