USFreeads.com is not a regcure affiliate

USFreeads.com is not a regcure affiliate. It is a classified advertising website as correctly pointed out by the poster who commented thus:

"People rating this site bad are foolish. This is not a scam website or phishing website of any kind whatsoever... it's an AD service website. They allow people to place ads. Plain and simple, that's it.

If you or someone you know has been scammed by one of these ads, it's the author of the ad that is the cause of that, not the ad company. Rating this site bad is like rating your local newspaper bad because they allow a classified ads section which some people abuse... foolish."

      Re: classified advertising website

As with any other publications, websites are responsible for the content. If an advertisement is a scam then the source of the advert is responsible but the publisher website, newspaper, or whatever, also has a duty of care to its readers and those using its services, and should take appropriate steps to weed out the bad apples before publication, or remove offending adverts as soon as they become known. To just take the money for the adverts and then seek to shrug off any responsibility is no less a scam than that of the offending advertisers.

Reality versus the way it should be

        @ Jazspeak,

"has a duty of care to its readers"
While I don't disagree with this, there's another entity that has a larger responsibility: the consumer.

If you're stupid enough to buy snake oil "colon cleanser", for example, from a newspaper advert, a 3AM infomercial with some anemic looking guy, or a scam web site, you're the one that's going to be in the ER and surgery for a perforated colon, not the scam snake oil seller or the media outlet that got paid for the ad.

Yes, in a perfect world, it would be good to put all these scammers and media outlets out of business (or in the case of my example, maybe give them perforated colons and surgery without anesthetic). But the reality is that these sleezebags and the media outlets that take money from them will continue to prosper as long as the consumer is stupid enough to buy that crap.

          re: the consumer

          I agree with your post.

          But...
Isn't protecting the consumer one of the early priorities of WOT?

It would be nice if, when viewing a scam ad in a magazine or newspaper that it were shielded with a warning message, or the same for television, but they do not have the capacity for immediate involvement / interaction. On the Net howevr, those having WOT installed... have an opportunity to be forewarned, whether they accept or decline the warning, it's their choice.

Also I consider the "snake oil" maker to be the methamphetamine lab and the media advertiser passing the "snake oil" products [drugs] as the pusher; both deserve getting busted for playing their part of scamming the consumer .

            Spot on g7w :D I do not

            Spot on g7w :D

I do not accept ignorance by a company who fails to check its supplier or customers but focus's on revenue gained. If this advertising company allowed illegal/fake drugs to be advertised though their services which led to the death or severe injury to another person, then they too should be accountable (in court) for the manslaughter or bodily harm the victim sustained.

              Has been tried

              @ IssViews,

"then they too should be accountable (in court) for the manslaughter or bodily harm the victim sustained"
I agree but the reality is that these large corporations have an army of lawyers that can outlast and out argue the little guy.

And even before it gets to court, these corporations have Risk Management departments that advise the CEO to settle out of court. 99% of the time, that advice is taken and the corporation offers the plaintiff a settlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars rather than go to court and risk a billion dollar judgment against it. They consider it a "nuisance" claim, and make every effort to settle out of court, or stall, because they don't want a jury . . . that by-and-large will favor the little guy against the "big bad" corporation . . . holding their financial future in their votes.

And most claimants eventually settle out of court, either because the money does it or because they can no longer afford to fight it.

For the few times the little guy wins, they make movies out of it. And of course, the studio owns the media outlet that originally sponsored the scam ad, so eventually all that money goes back to the media outlet.

Nevertheless. none of this argues against trying to do something about it. Though WOT may seem insignificant compared to this big picture, doing something is better than doing nothing at all. My fantasy will always be seeing these morons take a perp walk . . . ALL of them.

Maybe someday my fantasy will become reality. In the meantime, I'll do my little part with WOT and hope the consumer becomes more educated and makes wise choices.

                @ BobJam

Very true. Society is governed by lawyers imo.

The 'little guy' will always be a voice that rarely fails to be heard however (as you say) occasionally miraclesdo happen ;) I hope your dreams come true. Just keep up the fight as many 'little guys' can make a big group with power to influence the 'big guys' :)

            Certainly

            @ g7w,

My example assumes this imaginary consumer ignores the WOT warning, or doesn't even use WOT.

Yes, we can do our part with WOT in our little corner of the universe, but it's still ultimately the responsibility of the consumer to protect him/herself. Sounds harsh, but my opinion is that if you're stupid enough to buy into that crap, then you deserve everything you get.

Some would argue that it's the government's job to protect the consumer. BS!!! How 'bout we have the consumer protect the consumer, and lower my taxes with the money saved protecting these idiots from themselves?

If I had my way, that anemic looking weasel and his fake doctor on those infomercials for "colon cleanse" would be the first ones I'd put on the C Ark . . . with the TV network president right behind. Would love to see that perp walk.

Well . . . I see I'm getting on the soapbox . . . better get off These guys piss me off about as much as rogue software does. Those are my two pet peeves: rogue software and late night infomercials for snake oil.
