    Wot "exploit"

    Hi,
there is something really dangerous with the inherit from sub-domain, for example if someone create a small scam website on officelive.com or any hosting, the scam website will have the officelive.com rating and this will trick wot users thinking that they can trust the scammer !!!!

    Re: Wot "exploit"

Subdomains have independent reputations, so if an officelive.com subdomain gets rated poorly, it will have a poor reputation. Also, reputations propagate in both directions. If scammers start exploiting officelive.com, the parent domain's reputation will suffer as well.

Yeah but what I mean is that

Yeah but what I mean is that there are only thousands of scammers for example vs millions of good websites so office.live.com will never have a bad rating, wot should not give the subdomain rating to websites like wordpress, blogger, office.live etc It's just dangerous !

Re: Yeah but what I mean is that

It's the best estimate of the site's reputation based on the available information until ratings are received for the subdomain. I can see how this may be problematic for some of the large shared domains, but usually the relatively small number of scam sites hosted on these sites are rated quickly, and in most cases, domain owners (Google, Microsoft, ...) respond to reports pretty well and soon take down the malicious subdomains.

Of course, if this becomes a serious enough problem, we can start treating large shared domains similarly to eTLDs and disable reputation inheritance for them. So far, we haven't seen it necessary.

Not exactly, you see I have

Not exactly, you see I have a .tk domain (Multiple) and its not the same rating as the actual Web host. Same with webs.com sites.

    re: Wot "exploit"

If you know of a site hosted as a subdomain on a free/shared hosting service, please reference it in the form of: subdomain.example.com explain the contents and your opinions and suggest a rating classification.
