    Careful

I am sure this might be fake, but a lot of people/companies get on these sites and claim there competitors a rogue or fake programs when they are not. At the same time many of the virus makers are making virus that look and act like anti-virus programs.

It is a dangerious world out there so be careful, use anti-virus that has been around for a while from legitimate companies. Public companies are good since they have over site and investors that would prevent them from putting out malicious products. Norton (SYMC), Mcafee (MCAF), Trendmicro (TMIC) and CyberDefender (CYDE).

Frank runs a good security-minded blog.
Rest assured that if he or one of his associates posts an article warning of a rogue scanner software or other type of malware, it is just as the article describes.
At the same time many of the virus makers are making virus that look and act like anti-virus programs.
      Conspiracy theory?
I've heard this many times over the years, I've even kidded about it myself in respect to "job security", but to make a claim requires proof; something more than a simple statement. I see none presented.

Publicly traded companies are huge corporations. Take "Norton" for example. The corporation bought the rights to use an individual's name that has nothing to do with that individual other than the fact he [Peter] was a very good Assembler. I still have my copy of The Peter Norton Programmer's Guide to the IBM-PC

I personally don't trust big names, their only intent is profit and not the well being for the consumer who purchases their goods and services.

Thank you for telling us. I,

Thank you for telling us. I, myself, would never run any antivirus aside from AVG, Kaspersky or Norton.

      ...

NOD32 is far better IME, than AVG and Norton.

      little red umbrella

now known as Avira is actually very good. I visit many unscrupulous domains / sites and have remained clean, though I'll admit that when I go looking for them I also run the browser in Sandboxie but aside from those two programs, I run no other software.

          re: RE: Sandboxie

parrotlover should click the provided link and read:
Sandboxie runs your programs in an isolated space which prevents them from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer.

The red arrows indicate changes flowing from a running program into your computer. The box labeled Hard disk (no sandbox) shows changes by a program running normally. The box labeled Hard disk (with sandbox) shows changes by a program running under Sandboxie. The animation illustrates that Sandboxie is able to intercept the changes and isolate them within a sandbox, depicted as a yellow rectangle. It also illustrates that grouping the changes together makes it easy to delete all of them at once.

          Benefits of the Isolated Sandbox

          • Secure Web Browsing: Running your Web browser under the protection of Sandboxie means that all malicious software downloaded by the browser is trapped in the sandbox and can be discarded trivially.
          • Enhanced Privacy: Browsing history, cookies, and cached temporary files collected while Web browsing stay in the sandbox and don't leak into Windows.
          • Secure E-mail: Viruses and other malicious software that might be hiding in your email can't break out of the sandbox and can't infect your real system.
          • Windows Stays Lean: Prevent wear-and-tear in Windows by installing software into an isolated sandbox.
