    Statistics from WOT today.

Look at the stats below and tell me what you think!

    Comments by members
    Total 5,961,246 (100.0%)
    Positive 300,609 (5.0%)
    Negative 5,549,730 (93.1%)
    Neutral 110,907 (1.9%)

    Ratings by members
    New this week 275,508
    New this month 1,133,442

    Rated sites
    Total 26,316,398
    New this week 73,756
    New this month 376,033

    Dangerous sites
    Trustworthiness 1,886,179 (7.2%)
    Vendor reliability 1,956,740 (7.4%)
    Privacy 2,279,297 (8.7%)
    Child safety 2,781,494 (10.6%)

    1. Look how many people have commented on sites where the negative comments far outweigh positive ones.
    2. It looks like there is more trust placed in children allowed to visit dangerous sites than say an adult.

Yes I know it is giving the wrong impression to what people believe but looking at them shows a different story.

In a way this is comical but there is a serious side too. Perhaps many people are not rating sites using all the available ratings.

Using an obese PC. I offer it a bit and it takes a megabyte.

negative comments far outweigh positive ones

Perhaps WOT users are generally going to dangerous, or potentially dangerous, sites to adversely rate them. I accept that it is important to positively rate and comment on good safe sites but it is in the nature of security to aim investigations at potentially bad sites. After all. you wouldn't expect an anti-virus company to say that there are no new viruses because they haven't been looking for them (I wonder how many new viruses are created by the anti-virus companies just so they can say that they have been doing their job - or am I being too cynical?).

I would like to think that WOT users will eventually rate every site on the Internet, good and bad, which will clearly take a very long time but in the mean time it is probably just as well that so many WOT users are focussing on finding the bad sites first.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am in favour of seeing the bad sites listed in order to help us all but I would like to see good sites given equal feedback and comments too. Perhaps this is shown in another statistic I didn't see. I try to rate good and bad rather than concentrate on just the bad.

        TBH

I'd be more worried about going on bad rites that arn't rated yet than good sites that arn't rated yet.

I think ideally the cut shoud be 80% protection from bad sites then 20% alternate purposes for WOT.

Ignore me, I am annoyed with Jazspeak and half aslseep. (seriously sorry)

What you are pointing out is interesting. Put it in plain English. I think you are saying something important that everyone needs to realize. (I would delete my butting into this thread if it didn't leave you hanging)

Hey, no worries, I am not offended and you don't need to say sorry. This is purely a loose discussion in my opinion but one that may create interest for others and perhaps get the thinking caps out ;)

    WOT usage

How many milions have downloaded and use WOT?
Of those, how many have registered and are active on this Forum?

Most people who download WOT use it to their advantage, to help protect them from the "bad guys" out there. So most of us who rate heavily are looking for the bads sites to add to WOT's database and thus to help the entire, yet silent WOT Community.

Most people who have WOT and go to their favorite places may take a moment to pop up the rating card, mark their ratings and close the card and continue on with what they were doing.

    Here's the proof:
    Total rated sites 26,316,398
    Total comments 5,961,246
    - remember comments includes all website postings: blog, poll, forum, and scorecard
if you subtract all blog, poll, and forum postings, the comments for rated sites reduce a bit. There's about 24,000 comments on the forums

Looking at the "dangerous" stats they're between 7 - 9 percent of all rated sites
the number increases a little if you add in sites containing adult content (Child Safety)
Not bad to know that over 90% of sites rated in WOT are decent, legitimate, and good sites. I suppose the Internet is not such a "bad" place after all...
    :)

    peace,

I do realise this. It is the same for many things in life where a lot of people use services or read stuff but remain in the background with little to add or say.

It is great that there are dedicated people who strive to seek out bad sites for the benefit of all.

Go To The Site Scorecard To Safely Rate & Comment.

    But remember WOT users,

If you had a bad experience on a site before, you don't have to go back to that site to rate it in WOT. Just do the following:

1.Go to your WOT icon and click on it.

    2. Click "View My Page"

3.. Where it says, "Enter the reputation of your favorite site" put the URL in the box: i.e www.example.com

    4. You can than go to the WOT scorecard for general users without worrying about having to go to a suspicious site. Than fill out the scorecard for WOT and any optional comment category.

It's great to keep the WOT community informed. But I would say, DON"T GO TO A KNOWN BAD SITE, JUST TO GIVE US A RATIING! Sign up for WOT so you can be a registered user, than do the steps above to safely enter ratings and comments from the socrecard section for a site.

    Satch.

      Confused

Are you saying that you never have to visit a site in order to rate it, or are you saying that if you've visited a site already and found it poor and forgot to rate it, you don't have to revisit it in order to rate it?

      alternatively ...

You can bookmark this URL and then append the /xample.com at the end:
      http://www.mywot.com/scorecard/

Or you can simply install the WOT Scorecard plug-in into your browser's search bar.

    Light in the dark :D

I think he means the second you said. If i had a bad experience with a site before, i dont have to visit www.example.com again and then click on the scorecard. I can do i right from the wot webpage without getting annoyed again.

Right, You can click on the

      Right,

You can click on the scorecard and rate any site. This is helpful if you have visited the site and had a bad experience on a different computer.

      In addition to that,

What I was trying to say is, if you have had a bad experiance at a site, you don't have to go back to that site with WOT installed to rate it. You can either go to "My Page" and enter the URL in the example box, OR type the URL in the SEARCH BOX, (not the location) bar. Than after submitting the search, click on the WOT icon, which will take you to the WOT scorecard to rate and comment about the site.
