WOT Script crash after update to FF 3.6

Hi...Since updating to FF 3.6 have been receiving intermittent WOT script unresponsive errors. FF error console does not capture any info on this.

    WOT version installed is 20091028
    WinXP SP2
    FF 3.6

    Error message reads:

    Warning: Unresponsive script
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now , or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

    Script: chrome://wot/content/search.js:393

    Checkbox: Don't ask me again.

    Buttons: Stop Script - Continue

This is a very annoying issue. FF noticeably lags immediately prior to receving this message. I like WOT and would hate to remove it.

Also, I have multiple FF windows and tons of tabs open so no real way I know of to figure out if a specific site is causing this error.

Selecting Don' t Ask Me Again does nothing - my commonly visited sites don't change much and I run my PCs as long as possible without reboots.

    Help please/provide info!

    thanks in advance,
    -lestatar

It sounds like something in your Firefox profile is causing the problem. You should be able to solve the problem by creating a clean Firefox profile and installing the add-on there.

If you still see the problem after switching to a new profile, please open about:support in Firefox, copy the information to the clipboard, and include it in your problem report.

Same issue. Started in FF 3.5

If I create a new profile, won't that mean I lose all my FF stored passwords? Not willing to do that.

    How about uninstall WOT, reinstall?

Also fyi: the problem started as a v--e--r--r---r---y slow first browse after FF was sitting for a while, like 60-90 sec. for first load on cable modem. Error message (exactly as lestatar quoted) started later.

I´m sure you can still use passwords& bookmarks. But i don´t know which data has to be copied and pasted.

You don't absolutely need to create a new profile, you might be able to fix the current one. Creating a clean profile is just usually easier if you're not an expert. If the new profile solves the problem, you can migrate the data you had in your previous profile to the new one.

    Unresponsive script

This is a common problem on computers that do not have sufficient RAM, free space, and/or processing speed. If none of these are the issue (and you haven't disabled scripts) then you might want to check your bandwidth, for which I would recommend http://www.speedtest.net/

      Hey Jazspeak...RAM, CPU, HDD

Hey Jazspeak...RAM, CPU, HDD space and bandwidth n/a for me...

Did do as Sami suggested and problem seems to have abated somewhat...still occurs but with less frequency...

      cheers!

This is a common problem on computers that do not have sufficient RAM, free space, and/or processing speed.

Or, to be fair to those of us with older PCs who keep them in good running order but are thwarted by inefficient software updates: Rephrase that to: "This is a common problem of poorly-designed, poorly-integrated software acting as if its process is the only thing that matters on a user's PC, when in real life, tens of processes need to co-exist on one machine in real-time, and as such, producing software that uses the least RAM, drive space and processing cycles is highly important. Whilst being often overlooked, even though the minimum specification / system requirements of said software rarely or never reveals what this real-world-usability RAM/DISK/CPU requirement is (and it IS calculable).

Don't blame the computer's specification first, when there's still so much bloatware produced by people who don't live in the real world when it comes to hardware resources.

Apart from that, thanks for the how-to links.

        @ rtuwrtitwetuwer

Re: "Don't blame the computer's specification first..."

Perhaps the "blame" should rest with the OP who stated that s/he has "...multiple FF windows and tons of tabs open..." which is bound to be resource-intensive, although it is not really a matter of blame but a lack of understanding by the OP of the way that computers work.

I also use a number of older computers (although not for the Internet) but I do remain mindful of the abilities of each. You are correct to say that bloatware is an issue (ZoneAlarm being an obvious example) but there are also other issues for software developers, not least the continual changes to operating systems (especially Windows). For instance, the most recent versions of CCleaner simply will not run with older operating systems, and older computers designed for older operating systems will not run the newer OS for which the latest versions of software have to be designed, and the OS needs to be changing so frequently in order to keep up with the advances in hardware technology. So it is probably rather unfair to lay all the blame at the feet of software developers.

Glad you found the links useful.

        Edit: added clarification.
