    WOT Trust Seal

I know this is a bit of a cheek but will ask it all the same ;)

There are a few great contribulters to the WOT service and forum which are not assoiated with the company itself yet some have gone beyond the normal user in which to improve what WOT offers and to help others.

With this in mind, does, or would WOT consider some form of 'thank you' by offering this service free or greatly discounted so that these people who have their own websites could reap a bit of reward for their efforts?

I know that I, and many do not contribute here or rate/comment on sites for any gain but to help with making WOT a great success however I am sure some token effort would be greatly appreciated.

Using an obese PC. I offer it a bit and it takes a megabyte.

    offering this service free

A good idea but I would be very surprised if WOT were to consider reducing any potential income-stream by giving the WOT Seal away. I suppose that WOT would say that they already make the service available for free use, even though they do rely on members contributing time, effort, and expertise for free - after all, if it wasn't for members giving their time, effort, and expertise to make WOT work then WOT would not last very long. Still, your idea is a good one and could be a good incentive for WOT users to make even more effort to make WOT a success.

      This was my initial thoughts

This was my initial thoughts too however it's not as if WOT would be giving away thousands of free trust seals but would be returning some form of thanks for the effort put in by say platimum or higher members who took time and effort to provide many of the comments and ratings particularily on bad domains which the common user may not have stumbled upon or bothered to comment on.

Many companies give perks like this which does help in martketing and encouragement of their customers to keep up the good work.

    re: WOT Trust Seal

    My opinion is "split"

One part of my head say this would be a good idea agreeing with your thoughts that it would be a reward for merit; something that would be the "next level" over Platinum membership where one is awarded the mass-rating tool.

The other part of my head says that what would be the difference between the current free WOT Badge for someone like myself who has a simple homepage. I sell nothing, I have no affiliation with a vendor so I don't sell as a "third party."

The CTN is something for businesses who do offer products for sale, and I'm not talking the osCommerce or ZenCart shop that offers crotched booties, homemade crafts, art, etc. I think WOT's intention is to attract the big players because the price of a CTN is not meant for "the little guy."

This, in a way goes against WOT's initial idea that WOT would be a means to rate "little guy" webstores. so they too could compete against the big players on the Net.

My feeling about the CTN is that it should be tiered (I've manufactured this as a possible scenario).
    Bronze CTN - $20 / year
    Silver CTN - $250 / year
    Gold CTN - $100 / month
    Platinum CTN - $500 / month

naturally the higher the color, the higher the price, but the colors are based on site traffic. WOT can "see" traffic, it knows how many times a site gets "hit" by a WOT user because it maintains that user's rating against that site as "fresh." They have inadvertently created a large "hit counter" through their scorecard system and for sites that have no card yet, there are always other site traffic sites such as compete.com or Alexa rankings to go by. And no, WOT is not "spying" on you, but I am not blind as to the potential of aggregated demographics.

I wouldn't mind having a Bronze CTN... *smiles*

      What does a color mean..?

"naturally the higher the color, the higher the price, but the colors are based on site traffic."

I think this colour scheme could be misinterpreted. Wouldn't a bronze seal look less worthy than gold? Even if it was explained that the colour was based on traffic, some people would still miss the point. Or have I misunderstood something..?

        colors

My idea of color was to illustrate a point - make it like the Olympic medal, or the current user levels WOT uses. But I chose 4 classifications: 2 "home/personal" user and two "business class" user.

They could all be the same color, so as not to make one "look" less "reliable" as any other, instead they could have text labels, like "personal | home business | general business | corporate"

        Take for example VeriSign seals
If you have no SSL called a "Trust Seal" and then you have SSL "Secured Seal"
The trust seal is the low price
The SSL seals start at a certain amount, but the cost is increased with higher traffic sites.
But even at the $24.92 USD / month basic "Trust Seal" - not many WOT members could afford that, unless they are high-traffic business sites.

In any case, don't take my posts too seriously - this is all wishful thinking...
        ;-)

    That makes sense but there

That makes sense but there is no harm in aiding the smaller sites owned by regular contributers to WOT. :) Indeed the Bronze would be nice on my site too :)
