Are you addicted to the Internet?

Internet addiction is defined by Dr. Jerald Block, as a common compulsive-impulsive disorder that involves online and/or offline computer usage and consists of at least three subtypes:

    • excessive gaming
    • sexual preoccupations
    • email/text messaging

These three subtypes share these characteristics:

    1. excessive use, often associated with a loss of sense of time or a neglect of basic drives
    2. withdrawal, including feelings of anger, tension, and/or depression when the computer is inaccessible
    3. tolerance, including the need for better computer equipment, more software, or more hours of use
    4. negative repercussions, including arguments, lying, poor achievement, social isolation, and fatigue

Take this Internet addiction test to see if you exhibit any of the symptoms, and then maybe take a walk outside and think about the results.

      addicted to the internet

I failed the internet add test with a score of 54, but I don't care. I've only had a comp. for 9mo.(my 1st), and I keep finding out all kind of cool things to do on it. From easy access to serious news, to mindless news, and info on the rich & famous. Oooh, I love the easy access to all my questions, so I don't have to look them up in books. It's so new to me, that it's still a novelty. I'll probably tire of it soon, because I'm always having to fix things on it.

    It's a more common problem

It's a more common problem every day, and a horribly over-discussed one.

    Absolutely!

First of all the Internet is not addictive.
The problem is those people who have some degree of Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) - Wikipedia article; the higher the "degree" the greater the chance to addiction and the addiction can be anything as long as "they" are comfortable with it.

Internet access is necessary for some

I have personal friends whose work relies on great part on having consistent access to the Internet. Most of the people they know begin as Internet acquaintances, too, and many of them remain that way. Spending a lot of time online, and becoming upset when the Internet is inaccessible, is perfectly understandable when one's basic desires to be productive and to socialise depend on it.

Choosing to conduct business and relationships offline isn't always practical. In particular, if your philosophy, interests, or talents cannot be accommodated by people who happen to be near you, it's natural to seek alternatives in people who are not near. The only significant difference between online and offline interaction is the medium; as OCD can become a problem offline, so too can it become a problem online.

    Let's call reading

Let's call reading newspapers is a mental disorder, or talking to friends is a disorder. Unfortunately exists quasi specialists that speculates on something new that is not understandable to everybody. Take for example chinese which torture internet disorder people to "cure" them.
