I friend of mine had a problem with her mouse on her MBP and asked me to take a look. After taking a look at the normal things I could not find a problem with her mouse at all. What I did notice was When she booted the MBP it auto-ran a number of applications, I took a note of these and and closed each one and removed the auto-run. I then ran each application separately and played around with the mouse etc. I was able to reproduce the problem in one particular application, the mouse was uncontrollable and jumped away from buttons plus other annoying things to long to describe here. I rebooted and the problem went away, so I ran the Apple Activity Monitor and I also installed a protocol analyser to monitor the local network. I ran what I thought was the offending application and right away I noticed the application connected to a URL called api.devmate.com. WOT reported this as Malware which I must agree seemed to be correct. The offending application was called CleanMyMac 2 by MacPaw. I was then concerned that something must have affected this application and I asked when she had bought it, she said a friend at work installed it for her a few days prior to the problem. She gave him a call to see if he had the same problem which he said he did. I learned that he downloaded the Application from a torrent site called K**.** (I am not going to publish the site here). So I deleted the offending application and asked my friend to think about supporting developers and companies who bring us great applications like CleanMyMac 2. So a lessoned learned there for my friend and I hope to others reading this. Under no circumstances was MacPaw responsible for their application acting like this, and my friend had found the application was just what she needed and subsequently purchased a legal copy which I am happy to report does not affect her MBP at all.
