Just have a query i am very pleased with this rating site but when you go on some websites it dosent have a rating a comes up as a blue circle and question mark so sometimes i am unsure as to whether its safe or not. ?? how can you tell then?
also i have been on some websites that have come up with the black screen of death (red) and not continued with it so it is a good feature and warning to people....Well done wots!!
The sites with the blue
jue 12 jun 2008 20:36:00 UTC — RobThe sites with the blue question marks haven't been rated yet and need someone to leave a rating. Most of the mainstream sites have ratings, but some small (not necessarily bad) sites have not been covered yet. That's where we [the users] come in. If you have a good experience on the site, and they don't try to hack or scam you, leave a good rating, if not leave a bad rating.
Before you visit a site
vie 13 jun 2008 17:01:30 UTC — wehaveitallBefore you do visit a site that isn't rated by wot, or is rated by wot with no person icons for reliability, then you should try searching the title of the website on yahoo. Although yahoo does have some unsafe addresses in their system, there's a much less chance its unsafe if when you search the title, not the full address, the page comes up in the mainstream list as the first result (and occasionally the second). Also, sponsored results don't count!)
Don't believe that this works? try searching smiley central. It doesnt come up in the first two results. Smileycentral.info not even smileycentral.com comes up as the third result. Then, to be more specific, search the full title of the homepage: smiley central 10,000 free smiley emoticons for email and instant messages. Yahoo will say, 1 potentially harmful website is marked on this page.
Then try a safe site such as flickr, or pctools, and see how it comes up as the first result.
Note: Why does it come up with pctools as yellow in the rating window when you move your cursor on the link, but when clicked, it says green. (and ive tried their products, it's safe.) ?
how many ratings
jue 03 jul 2008 07:16:44 UTC — culda_ahow many ratings is needed for a website to be rated as good or bad website?
Re: how many ratings
jue 03 jul 2008 07:31:12 UTC — SamiThe number of ratings doesn't matter, only the reliability of the ratings. Therefore, new or untrusted users cannot set the rating for a previously unknown site. Only when the confidence value for the site's rating reaches a certain minimum threshold it's shown on the add-on. For the add-on to actually show a warning for a poorly rated website, the confidence must be even higher.
