I have noticed that on opening IE7, the WOT toolbar is on the far left and occupies it's own space. But if I right click in a blank toolbar space and then uncheck WOT, it disappears and gives me more screen real estate. That part's fine. And WOT is still running . . . it's toolbar has just gone away.
Then if I open up another tab and go to a website in it, the WOT toolbar reappears on the far right in a toolbar space shared with my Google toolbar. And that part is fine too. In fact, that's where I want it when I open IE . . . but I always have to go through that iteration to get it there because when I close and open IE again, it;s back on the left hogging valuable screen real estate in it's own toolbar.
So what am I doing wrong?? Or is it just designed that way, and am I going to have to live with that very minor bother?? (I say very minor because this really isn't a big deal . . . I'd just like to know if I could get it where I want it right away on opening IE7).
Re: Placement of the WOT toolbar
to 28. elokuuta 2008 09:43:13 — SamiThe IE add-on leaves the position of the toolbar up to the browser. If the position changes, it's either another toolbar or the browser itself moving it. You should be able to lock your toolbars by selecting "Lock the toolbars" from the View -> Toolbars menu.
Also, removing the WOT toolbar disables the entire add-on, which is why it shows up when your restart your browser. (You can stop this by disabling the WOT Helper add-on from Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Enable or Disable Add-ons.)

Either I'm not understanding your answer, or I'm just too dense to understand plain English (which is a real possibility).
So let me put on my attorney hat (excuse the smell), and ask a simple "Yes or "No" question: Is there a way to do what I want to do??
If the answer is No, then I'll live with this minor annoyance, blame it on a flaw in IE7 and not WOT, and stop this questioning.
If the answer is Yes, however, can you give me a step-by-step procedure on how to do it? You may have already, but as I said, I apologize for being so dense.
BTW, locking the toolbar in IE JUST disables a user's ability to move the toolbars, but it DOES NOT "freeze" the WOT toolbar and keep the WOT toolbar in the same location for the next session.
I did try disabling the WOT Helper add-on, but that had no effect on my issue.
Interestingly, in FireFox there IS NOT this issue. Yet another reason that FF is viewed by some as superior to IE.
Re: Wait a minute . . .
pe 29. elokuuta 2008 14:48:10 — SamiYou can permanently hide the toolbar button and stop it from reappearing by disabling the WOT Helper add-on. However, when you restart your browser, the entire add-on will be disabled until you bring back the toolbar button.
Also, the WOT add-on does not decide where it goes in your toolbar, Internet Explorer decides that. Or it could be that the Google toolbar moves away other toolbars trying to invade its personal space? Either way, someone else seems to be moving the WOT button around, and the fact that locking the toolbars didn't help sort of supports this.
So, I suppose the answer is ... no? I agree, Firefox is a lot more user friendly in these matters.
Well . . . somehow I got it
la 30. elokuuta 2008 02:45:41 — BobJamWell . . . somehow I got it the way I want it. Now when I start up IE7, the WOT toolbar is over on the far right in the Google toolbar. How I did that I have . . . NO IDEA. I did a bunch of clicking around, trying various iterations . . . Helper disabled, Toolbars locked, started and restarted IE, varied the sequence . . . the typical clicking around that produces results, but you did it so much that you don't know which iteration worked.
I do know that right now, with the WOT toolbar where I want it, the Helper add-on is . . . ENABLED, and the Toolbars are UNLOCKED. I'm tempted to lock the toolbars right now so that I don't accidentally rearrange things, but I don't want to mess with anything anymore. I may screw up what I apparently stumbled on.
And WOT works in Google searches.
Anyway . . . go figure . . .
So, it CAN be done, but how . . . as I said . . . I HAVE NO IDEA.
Well . . . after many
la 30. elokuuta 2008 16:07:25 — BobJamWell . . . after many iterations and experiments, I've figured out the steps to make the WOT toolbar show up where I want it in IE7: to the far right.
It;s not exactly the "set it and forget it" that I wanted, and does require a little manipulation each time you CLOSE IE7, but it's close.
Here are the steps:
1. When you open IE7, the WOT toolbar will be situated on the far left and will take up screen real estate in it's own toolbar.
2. Right click anywhere in a blank space on the toolbars and UNCHECK the WOT toolbar. This will not disable WOT . . . Google something afterwards and you will see.
3. When your next session begins, the WOT toolbar will show up on the right, UNLESS you have forgotten to UNCHECK THE WOT toolbar when you exited, in which case it will show up on the left taking up it's own space.
4. Whenever you exit IE7 and want to start another session later, MAKE SURE AND UNCHECK THE WOT TOOLBAR if you want it to show up on the right. Careful here, because the first time you restart IE7 after step #2, the WOT toolbar will show up on the right, but you need to make sure and UNCHECK the toolbar before you exit.
5. But there will aways be this nuance: If you power down and start IE7 then, you will have to go back to steps 1 through 4 (which is why I say it's not "set it and forget it").
So the key to this whole thing is UNCHECKING THE WOT TOOLBAR when you exit IE7.
The advantage to IE7 is that you can manipulate the toolbars easily . . . the disadvantage is that you NEED to do this if you want to get the WOT toolbar on the right. The disadvantage of FF is that the toolbars are not as easily manipulated (and in most cases, IMPOSSIBLE to manipulate), but the obvious advantage in the case of WOT is that you don't need to. In FF, the WOT toolbar shows up right next to the address bar AND STAYS THERE no matter what.
Actually, this was not so for SA 2.8 in FF. It showed up on the left with it's own space hogging valuable real estate, and you couldn't move it. SA 2.6 on the other hand showed up at the bottom in the status bar in FF.

Ratz. Looks like clickable images are not supported.
Why can't we hide the icon
la 31. lokakuuta 2009 12:22:41 — vistaakahWhy cant we hide the icon and have WOT remain functioning. I love what WOT does but i don't like not having the option to move the icon where i want in IE8. Why is it necessary to have WOT helper running?

It's because the IE add-on is a toolbar and hiding the toolbar disables it. Seeing the current site's reputation and being able to rate it is also a pretty important feature, so we thought a toolbar was the best way to implement this.
i don't like not having the option to move the icon where i want in IE8
Neither do I, but this restriction comes from Internet Explorer. If you want more control over your browser's appearance, you may want to consider switching to Firefox.
Why is it necessary to have WOT helper running?
It's not. The helper BHO simply adds the toolbar to IE when you first install the add-on.
