Jump to first new post in forum..? Thread menu..?

In such cases there is a feature that unfortunately isn't:
It would be very nice and quite practical if the start of a thread included a link:
"Jump to latest new post". Remember, new posts are not always located at the end;
they may pop up anywhere inside the thread, as the local answer to a local post.
Then they can be hard to find. Waste of time as the system already knows the location.
Yes, I'm aware that new posts are marked as "New",
but we still have to search for them,
and scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll...
A compact thread menu could be a shortcut to latest new post,
plus a short overview of the whole thread. Here's an example:

dom 28 set 2008 16:59:45 UTC da BobJamI also have noticed that if a thread goes to two (or more . . . haven't seen that yet) pages, and you post on the second page, it sends you back to the first page instead of your view of your post on the second page. Consequently, if you want to view your post or edit it, you have to scroll all the way down to "Next" on page 1, go to page 2, and then scroll down some more (if your post is that far down) to see it for editing, or just to view it. That's very tedious. Would be good if it could just default to the view of the post you just made.
Or can it do that, and I'm just missing something??

dom 28 set 2008 18:58:29 UTC da phantazmThanks for the echoes! It looks as if the problems, we're discussing, aren't really fundamental faults but are more related to growth. A few threads and posts are easily overviewed. But now our forum offers almost 400 topics and 2300 posts..!
Another overview I miss, is the complete list of threads in "General discussion",
"Comments on websites" and "Technical advice". Does such a list exist somewhere? If not I'll suggest it. Why not use the right column for this purpose; now it's wasting 99% of the screenspace..?

I know. But I was thinking of an alphabetically sorted list, a kind of index.
Presently we have a topic-list sorted by time only. This keeps the news at top, but at the price of any consistent order - topics keep jumping around whenever someone replies. Of course news make sense (and a shortcut to latest post is still my first suggestion). My second suggestion: a sorted list would also be nice - as a supplement.
400 topics are quite a lot, but how about thousands..?
Furthermore I'll suggest one long unbroken list - scrolling can be fast, if you know where to zoom in from the beginning. To make the long list shorter, I'll suggest a compact format: 1 topic = 1 line. (If you want an example: something like my demo-menu at top.)

lun 29 set 2008 02:11:49 UTC da BobJamPhantazm makes a good point . . . these aren't really flaws as much as they are due to the fact that this community has gotten big FAST.
Typically, staffing lags growth, particularly rapid growth, and particularly when the site doesn't generate any revenue to support increased staff.
I'm assuming the current staff is stretched pretty thin (I think that's a safe assumption), and the addition of all these features we are requesting would require additional staff to make them quickly. Existing staff would get around to them eventually, but probably not as quick as we'd like.
I'm not making excuses for the WOT staff, and I certainly can't speak for them. My sense though is that to do all these "improvements" to the forum we want as quickly as we'd like would overwhelm the existing staff.
So, I'll be satisfied if just a few improvements are made over time.
But of course, if I'm wrong in my assumptions, I will be pleasantly surprised when the existing staff makes these changes quickly (unlikely but possible I guess if I'm, as I said, wrong in my assumptions).

Perhaps a good option too, would be to have a link to the latest post in the thread, in the actual forum listings too.

The main forum page now has a link to the new comments below the "Replies" column. The Forum table can be sorted by clicking the table headers. Finally the forum links and the "Post a comment" work as they should when the forum thread has multiple pages.

Actually, all the menu items open in the current tab, while all the rating window links open in a new tab. That's not a bug, it's a feature. :)
If you prefer to open mywot.com in a new tab, you can click the WOT logo on the rating window.
