Is this legitimate?

Alrighty, many of you are pros at determining whether or not a website is safe. Now I need your skills for a real situation.

Four days ago, I got an email from someone calling themselves the web-admin from gamesmainframe.com. He said he would like to exchange links. He said quote:

"Currently, I'm in the process of promoting more sites in several fields (From Gambling to Finance) and am looking for quality
partners to exchange links with. I believe that your website will be an impressive addition to the list of sites I currently exchange
links with and thats why I wanted to know if it would be possible to place a link to one of my sites from your homepage?"

The email he left for me to email him at was an email ending with @gamesmainframe.com so it must be someone actually from that website. I really want to know if the website is safe since there's little confidence to support the current rating.

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Is this legitimate?

I've found similarly worded messages in my spam folder recently. Doesn't sound legitimate to me.

Is it relevant..?

Before I wondered if the site was secure, I would ask myself if it was relevant at all. The email you're quoting looks like a standard message, that could have been sent to any website with a decent pagerank and valuable traffic.

Plus, I wouldn't think of "Gambling to Finance" a promising background.

In any case: reciprocal linking is a trick that died long ago.
One site links to another, if its content is relevant.
Without relevance linking is a 'false vote'...

My advice? Don't...

C.O.A.

Go to his website and check to see if it has a Certificate of Authenticity. It should be located at the bottom of the home page. Now, even if it does have one, check to see if it is actually authentic. If it all checks out, then go for it, if you find one weak link, drop it like its hot ... because it may be.
