I've seen the ratings of Brothersoft.com which is telling me not to trust it. But before i using this add-on, I downloaded and installed many softwares from that site and i never found them doing wrong things (I have scanned the setups with antivirus which never said there is a virus in it.). so whats killing me is is there any one who experienced something wrong downloading from that site? can anyone describe about it?

sab 07 nov 2009 05:35:42 UTC da MysteryFCMI could go on and on and on and on about Brothersoft, with everything from their endlessly spamming me (even after their telling me they'd stop doing so), to their STILL hosting malicious programs (hint: look in the security listings).

sab 07 nov 2009 09:03:10 UTC da FlyAquaI am a developer of free software, and Brothersoft keeps hosting it again and again without my permission. They remove it when I tell them, but a few months later it's up again. That's what annoys me! Concerning viruses, I have no idea. But I personally wouldn't trust that site.

sab 07 nov 2009 11:30:53 UTC da jpvipI tested a lot of software on there, and I found a large amount of potentially unwanted programs, adware, spyware, and rogues. (All combined, not just each category).
Mostly they were low to moderate risk - but still it is malware and is reprehensible behavior. I do not find them a trusted source for downloads and have not used the site for about two years. I cannot believe some companies find their trust in BrotherSoft.

3rd party download repositories

My preference is to get the software directly from the developer.
There is no need for a third party download site unless the developer is small and can not afford the bandwidth to support his/her own downloads, but then why get the software? If they can not offer downloads, they can not provide support either (upgrades, patches, etc.). Hosting is cheap now-a-days and even shared hosting packages provide sufficient bandwidth and storage capacity for most any need.
