It is some time now, that I actively used WhiteSmoke software and I remember not all nuisances that made me ditch the tool, but my overall feeling I have when remembering the time I had the tool on my PC is one of anger. First: The quality of the work WhiteSmoke did was bad. During that time my English improved and I more and more realised that the corrections WhiteSmoke made were often wrong. There are free tools out there doing a much better job. But the main nuisance was the load of Spam that came with Whitesmoke. They are bombarding their customers with advertisement and trying to bully you into buying every extension they offer by burying you under a shitload of mails. I complained. I threatened with never buying WhiteSmoke again. I complained again. They said they took me from their list at least three times, but after some short period of silence the spam flood returned. I stopped using whitesmoke around 2012, I think. I still receive their spam. Or at least, my spamfolder is receiving and deleting their spam.

I am a recent victim of their scam. I recently purchased a "WhiteSmoke Anywhere Online Editor's Yearly Plan under their Christmas Discount offer of 80% off, I received in my mailbox." I wanted a grammar checking service to proof read my written materials. So I went ahead and purchased it for $19.95. I went through a page "https://buy.whitesmoke.com" which I later realized its 'Identity is not Verified'. This page redirected me to a payment gateway "www.plimus.com" whose "Identity is verified" and therefore I made a purchase. I received login details I was supposed to enter into this page http://www.whitesmoke.com/tools/onlineV8/index.php When I attempted to enter username and password into this page I got a error saying, "The login credentials you entered are not valid. Please contact ***** for assistance" So I later contacted (multiple times) their customer support but never received any official reply to resolve my issue. An automated ticket was always raised buy their following site only to left unanswered. https://kayako.whitesmoke.com/ Months have passed but still no officlal reply is received and I know I am scamed. I wrote this only to prevent future buyers from dealing with this fraud service called Whitesmoke. I also request all victims to file a complaint on Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) website *****

If you even visit their "Online Grammar Checker" page, it automatically installs the "WhiteSmoke_Installer.exe" , a spyware/trojan horse. It does provide a somewhat satisfactory grammar checker, however it changes your homepage. This homepage redirects your searches to malicious searches and is often difficult to change. After this program is installed, it will give you the inability to delete or uninstall it as it locks itself remotely.

This pesky malware found its way onto my computer somehow. @Whitesmoke1, you will not persuade me. You installed your malicious extension into Google Chrome TWICE. There is absolutely no sign of WhiteSmoke being installed. I would call a program that finds its way on to a computer without the users permission quite malicious. You and mindspark etc persaude people that you are safe. You aren't. Your software would be good if there weren't so many viruses in it. @Everyone else Do not listen to this person "Whitesmoke1". The person spams people to vote this up. Not gonna be persuaded. Chrome's "WhiteSmoke New" extension tells you that it can access all data on your computer - that's bad. I have heard that it installs the TDSS rootkit. I ran a scan with tdsskiller and sure enough, it found that rootkit. If you want malware, you might as well just go to other well known malicious sites, such as worm dot com and virus dot com. I didn't put the . because then it would be a link to it - I'm trying to help, not infect you with malicious viruses. In short, stay away from this site! As soon as you see any sign of this on your computer try to remove it immediately!

Why, if this site is so good, is it so damn difficult to remove? Even though I went through the process of removal. I still get messages from my browser, saying that it is trying to install itself. Any site that inflicts itself on someone and does not allow itself to be removed is as far as I am concerned, criminal.
