Those of you who participate on the WOT forum and blog know that we enjoy providing a place where people can share their knowledge and experiences regarding websites. As our community is growing, we want to develop WOT further by letting you communicate easily with other users and share interesting and fun stuff with them.
But before our development team starts its work we would like to hear your ideas: what social activities would you like to have? What information would you like to share with and see about other members? If you have your own website, would you like to have widgets, badges and banners from WOT? We just added a list of Top 20,000 Websites by Popularity – what else would you like to see from our database? What about the user levels and rewards?
Please share your ideas with us and participate in building Web of Trust!
Idea: Trade off banners
mån 26 maj 2008 20.08.53 av wehaveitallBadges and banners and widgets for wot are something that are great for every website. What if you had a trade off sort of program. Wot could make a special thanks page. If a site puts a wot banner on their website, they let wot know about this. Then, wot can add a link to their website on the special thanks page. That simple.
I have a google group and my own domain. Between all the visits google groups get, (http://groups.google.com/group/ancient-america anyone feel free to join :D) as well as my website wehaveitall.net, that would drive a lot of traffic toward wot, and with all the visitors wot gets, it would drive a lot of traffic toward my websites.
Another suggestion I have is also to give people access to put the ask wot widget on their page. Then it could say on it, like this widget? Try wot to stay safe whenever you browse the web.
Hope you can include my suggestions!
Thanks,
Ben
Re: trade off banners
tor 5 jun 2008 07.24.00 av Deborah S.Ben, you have great ideas! We have been mulling over these suggestions, and came up with something you'll like.
In the next WOT newsletter, I will show an example of a prototype dynamic badge that can be placed on a site or blog. We have come up with a few different designs, both dynamic and static. Plus, we are adding a Friends of WOT page, where you can get all of these goodies.
Sami has developed a widget (you can see it on external links within the WOT site - like yours above) that can be customized for your blog or website. He will post a detailed blog with the code snippets soon, as well as having an announcement in the June newsletter.
Now Ben, can you get to work on a Katune widget?
katune? Whats a katune???

I think it would be pretty
mån 26 maj 2008 22.09.13 av RobI think it would be pretty nice to have public profiles with user ranks (where you stand in conjunction with everyone else) and possibly groups for people with similar interests.
One thing I don't think will be a good idea would be to have a list of everyone by rank though. This could cause people to compete in a way detrimental to WOT like just typing in random URLs and rating them.
I really think that the community aspect needs to be pushed though, as there are not many forum regulars compared to the active WOT userbase.
Re: I think it would be pretty
tis 27 maj 2008 21.22.00 av ReprotectedDo you mean like Rogue Software Site Names as an Example?
Fake websites can be found if it is fake by just finding the Whois (DomainTools), and if there is no information, the site is fake or not made.
Re: I think it would be pretty
tor 5 jun 2008 07.32.00 av Deborah S.We agree with Rob that the community aspect of WOT should be pushed. There are lots of users with good things to say, but the vehicle to do that is not so developed. The introduction of the Website Reputation Scorecard with commenting was a major step forward, but now we have to continue.
We are expanding the user profiles and revamping My Page to contain more interesting and useful things, including user ranks. I hope you'll like what we're doing.
Ranks: Quality, not quantity counts...
lör 7 jun 2008 17.13.05 av phantazmRob: "One thing I don't think will be a good idea would be to have a list of everyone by rank though. This could cause people to compete in a way detrimental to WOT like just typing in random URLs and rating them."
Typing random urls would soon lead to nonexisting sites being rated. I'm sure the system is preparered to deal with such nonsens. And unless I'm very mistaken, the system rewards quality, not quantity. In short, if you write a zillion posts of utter garbage, then you don't game the system, just waste your time...
Rank is pretty good...
tis 27 maj 2008 21.18.34 av ReprotectedRanking is pretty good though, like SiteAdvisor, WOT could make a Rank thing to check for the top users, lets say top 50 or something and a user searcher.
There could be also an idea of if a WOT employee has actually tested a website, there could be a symbol that shows that they have tested their scripts and downloads, to notify that the WOT employees didn't just rate the site randomly RED or GREEN or to notify that the entire site (not sub-domains) is safe, and they can also add a small table that shows a list of downloads that was spotted in the site and if the download is infected or not by using an anti-virus and the last time the site was rated.
MyWOT could also add a Browser Exploit Block (Mandatory Block) feature to simplify everything of rating websites because if WOT has found a Browser Exploit site, they can't just rate it RED because if someone accidentally arrived to that website, they can easily get infected, and even Mozilla Firefox can get exploits. Even though, adding a Mandatory Block feature can help save a lot of people getting infected and some people only set their security of WOT to Warning than Blocking. (like me but I have NoScript)
Another idea...
tis 27 maj 2008 21.59.46 av Seattle Johnwould be to have the ability to send Personal Messages. There are times when users might have something to say or ask of another user, but it may not warrant posting on the forum for all to see. This could bring more members closer together, or get someone involved that may feel reluctant to post on the main boards.
Just a thought.
Re: Another idea...
tor 5 jun 2008 07.36.20 av Deborah S.Personal messages is something we wanted to include on the new incarnation of My Page. Seattle John, we see your point about some people having reluctance to post on the main blog or forum, so this may just do the trick.
Thanks for the suggestion.
i will gladly post banner,
sön 1 jun 2008 04.33.00 av mehfuzi will gladly post banner, widget to promote wot and yes pm idea is good
i would also like to see an option to get auto notification when someone add comment on sites i have rated, also a separate forum for each sites (i know it's overkill) where people can discuss on that particular site
Re: I will gladly...Auto notification
tor 5 jun 2008 07.38.00 av Deborah S.What if you were a site owner and wanted to keep track of the comments made to your own site? How about an RSS feed for that? Mehfuz, your suggestion started some conversation here, and we're working on something now.
Thank you!
A security custom search
sön 1 jun 2008 20.43.41 av wehaveitallWe could also make a custom search engine with google co-op and make it have all sorts of security websites in it's database.
Hey all...
tis 3 jun 2008 16.01.54 av Yatti420I like "wehaveitall's" google search engine idea.. I've had one problem with WOT so far... When my teenage niece uses our computers at our home she can easily get around WOT and disable it.. Pehaps a password protected WOT if possible? Perhaps this can be done with firefox user profiles.. Ill look into that aswell as I am home today..
Thanks..
Peace

tor 5 jun 2008 08.41.12 av XRichXYatti420, i agree with you on that, we would need some kind of level protection for WOT from being disabled by younger (more vulnerable) internet surfers.
I would also really like the ideas being included that are being thrown about here such as; PM's, profiles, custom google security search, RSS feed for comments and updates etc. I really love te idea of banners + widgets, myself and a friend are going to start a Community Forum soon so we'd like to promote WOT and show some information throughout the site.
Keep up the great work!

Richard Edmonds
Extended Scorecard
fre 6 jun 2008 17.51.44 av Seattle JohnI think it would be great if our personal scorecards also included the comments we have (or have not) made about the web sites. Here is the usefulness of the idea: I rated many sites before the 'comments' feature was added. Some of those sites deserve a comment. If I could just browse my ratings, I would easily see those that I haven't commented on yet, but should.
re: Extended Scorecard
fre 6 jun 2008 19.20.47 av Deborah S.Well, Seattle John, this time we're thinking along the same lines. This idea is being developed now.
We knew it all along - great minds really do think alike! Thank you.
Expert in what..?
lör 7 jun 2008 17.21.40 av phantazmWot: "Here are some things we have been thinking about: User levels and activity scores. How should we differentiate the levels? Examples could be: gold – silver – bronze; expert – experienced – novice; How about icons to represent the levels?"
People are rarely experts in all directions; it would be nice to know what kind of expertise. The same goes for 'experienced'...
Thanks guys!
ons 11 jun 2008 10.17.20 av Esa S.I want to thank everyone who has taken time and shared his or her ideas on this topic. We have taken a note on each idea that has been presented here. That doesn't mean that all good ideas will be added to the next version, but I think we are going provide major part of the stuff many of you have proposed.
We are currently starting the programming and the user interface design phase, and I hope that we can give some sample screens to look at pretty soon. Stay tuned!
