Sourceforge.net still pushing Lolita porn and malware.

Why is Sourceforge still pushing Lolita porn and malware?
A month ago, we blogged about FakeRean (a very nasty malware/rogue antivirus) being served by spam PHP off of Sourceforge.net. We figured something would happen.

    Well, nothing happened.

We’re still seeing hardcore and lolita porn spam on Sourceforge. It’s all PHP hacks, which points to sloppy moderation and site stewardship; worse, this is not just junk spam like “buy Russian handbags”, but rather, redirects to sites that often serve malware.

Case in point is this spam promising lolita porn.

Not encouraging for a service that is so popular is it?

They really need to get that forum on a separate subdomain or the entire Sourceforge project is going to get rated as malware. That would be very unfortunate!

Yes, WOT has a wiki. Check there first for fast answers to many questions like "Why is my site rated red, and how do I fix that?"

Sourceforge has lost it's glamour as they started their "site redesign". I think it once was a good resource, but since github and others came up, sourceforge is starting to lose ground. If they don't watch their back, things like described above could become one of the nails to their coffin.

Myself and Chris have been following this, and working on takedowns and cleanups.

I must strongly advise anyone considering checking the links there, to do so extremely carefully (and unless you have a damn good reason for checking them - stay well away from it, due to potential CP).

Not to mention warez and illegal copyrighted content.

RE: Sourceforge.net still pushing Lolita porn and malware.

Investigating warez is risky but child porn is an especial issue in countries like the US. No matter how noble your intention, it is a crime to view CP images. Once you have viewed them, even if you erase them from your cache, until they are overwritten with other data, you are guilty of "possessing" child pornography.

If you're in the US and for some reason you accidentally load a CP image (even a forum avatar), immediately report it to cover yourself:

There's ample of software for Windows to take care of the paranoia. Check http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-secure-e... for some examples. Vista and Win7 can use an onboard tool: cipher.exe (cmd > cipher /w:[driveletter] ... example: cipher /w:c ). I'm sure there are alike tools for linux based systems.
