    WOT alternatives for Android devices

There have been many requests asking for WOT to support mobile browsers. While the WOT developers have said they have no plans to add WOT mobile support there are a few ways you can have WOT ratings at your finger tips on Android supported devices.

First you need to download the Dolphin Browser® HD browser for your device.

Next install one or both of the following add-ons.
    Battery saver--Dolphin add-on
    Ultimate Flag

The Battery saver--Dolphin add-on (Dolphin Companion) is promoted as a battery saving app but it also has a Security manager to help protect your browsing security. It will give you a warning you when come across untrusted websites which have low ratings by WOT. It will also show you the secure info (WOT ratings) of each page.

The Dolphin Ultimate Flag add-on shows the security index of a website from both WOT and SiteAdvisor, as well as the countries and regions of the site. It also shows you the websites IP and allows you to easily copy the IP.

To access these and other add-ons simply swipe to the Right SideBar and select the add-on you wish to use.

Yes, I know that Dolphin is available for iOS too, but Companion addon for this browser is a native Android application, which means, that developers have to write it again for another platforms.

Sorry for question, I should check it by myself and I did it now. And have to say, that there is no addons for Dolphin for iOS. That means, there is no Companion addon.

EDIT: You are correct. It looks like the add-ons are Android only.

Thread title changed. Sorry for the confusion.

So can I install both add ons or would they conflict? Also they need to improve both add ons mainly when using a search engine like Google they don't let you know if a web link is safe or not.

There is no free website warnings for mobile browsers in search engines. SiteAdvisor is supposed to have one but it is not free so I have never checked it out.

No they do not conflict with each other.

RE: WOT alternatives for Android devices

On Android devices, there are some differences based on the Android release level for Dolphin. The new fast beta of Dolphin doesn't support some of the plug-ins like ultimate flag, where the regular Dolphin distro appears to do so.
Additionally, if you have a Android device that is vendor locked to the vendor's store, e.g. Barnes and Noble's Nook lines, you may find that the version may or may not be the same as found in Google's marketplace.

What I'd really like is a bookmarklet that works across most Android web browsers, especially the built in one.

RE: WOT alternatives for Android devices

Generally speaking, I am not as worried about what sites I visit on my mobile since I don't discover new sites on it. Apps/physical safety of my device are more of a concern so I use Comodo's AV app which is free and allows you to track it via GPS if wanted. It can block calls/texts and some other neat stuff. Just my 2 cents ;)

Just attempted to download the two addons Ultimate flag=OK the battery saver on the other hand says my Nexus 7 2012 is not suitabIe.
I have used WOT successfully on my PC and am disappointed not to be able to on my Android device.

    I have one alternate solution.

Although WOT extension for Android Browser is not there but if you can change/use a secondary search engine, your work is done.

-Use "duckduckgo" as your backup (or primary) search engine
-It has build in functionality of WOT
-WOT ratings works on all Browsers

Screenshot of WOT working in "duckduckgo.com" : http://i42.tinypic.com/zu32h4.jpg

-You can also surf safe and anonymously.

Note: I do not own any android device so tested it on Online Emulator. Please leave your comment here, if it worked for you........

I've just tried it on my phone and it doesn't work, but I don't know if it's because I use an uncommon browser.

RE: WOT alternatives for Android devices

The WOT ratings do indeed work on DuckDuckGo searches in mobile browsers. You do need to enable WOT in DuckDuckGo under:

    • More > Settings > All WOT + Favicons (both)

    or

    • More > Settings > Just WOT Ratings

    Tested and worked with:

    • Stock Android Browser
    • Chrome Browser - Google (Android)
    • Firefox Browser for Android

Samsung Galaxy S4 Screenshot using the Stock Android Browser.

Actually I do not own any phone so I used "Manymo" to test it. I have used duckduckgo.com in past.
And when I came across this thread I thought it would be nice to share.

It's good that it worked on your phone's browser.

RE: WOT alternatives for Android devices

I appreciate you sharing the information nav_sx. While WOT ratings do show in DuckDuckGo searches it still doesn't work on a per site basis like the browser add-on. DuckDuckGo is still a very good alternative though.

RE: WOT alternatives for Android devices

I did install dolphin HD, as well as battery saver and ultimate flag, for my android phone. However, there is a problem: I find (unless I am mistaking something?), that I cannot view the ratings for any sites until AFTER I already visit the site!
(By any chance, is that what the DuckDuck Go does?)

Seems the defeat the purpose, if you ALREADY visit a site THEN find out it's got questionable ratings.
! (I know you get warned if it's definitely got bad ratings, but when the site would have a questionmark and be blue instead of green, there is no warning. I want to have it like my PC where you are shown the ratings just by viewing the link, BEFORE you click on it.) Any suggestions for that? Thanks!

    blessings always, zariah

The topic title is "WOT alternatives for Android devices". There is no WOT plug in for mobile browsers.

As for Dolphin and Ultimate Flag. You might want to ask in the Dolphin Support Center.

RE: WOT alternatives for Android devices

As it turns out, you can use bookmarklets in Chrome through the search bar!
    Works fine for me.

Pick a good name for it that you can get to auto-complete quickly.
Type the name into the search bar when you want to run it.
Tap the bookmarklet when it shows up in the drop-down.

Too bad Android Chrome doesn't let you install extensions. If it did, it would be my first install. I always check the donut on the Google Results before clicking on my PC.

I use Firefox browser and have set DuckDuckgo as one of my search engines. It has the WOT service built in the search and it does not track your browsing habits like Google. https://duckduckgo.com
