RE: Which of the reputation components do you most often rate as

    Depends on content.

  3. I still tend to paint them all red unless the site has specific issues with privacy or trust. Obviously a Russian Viagra site is not going to get any good score from anybody, in any category.

RE: Which of the reputation components do you most often rate as

All components are important and give an overall picture of the site. If the site is not trustworthy rest of the components of the assessment is negative.

  5. Where's the "Other" option [please explain]

Each component has it's own function.
If a site has privacy isues but it's content is fairly accurate or generally reliable, I might rate Trustworthiness yellow while rating Privacy red.

Naturally, all categories receive poor ratings when they are involved with Phishing, distributing Malware, spamming, or are some form of online scam.

I miss an option "I don't know". I think I could write a script to analyze my ratings to know that, but that would be a little too much effort for a simple poll IMO. ;-)

RE: Which of the reputation components do you most often rate as

Most of the time, I usually put "privacy" because of the majority of the sites I rate have something to do with privacy issues. But really, I mostly do "trustworthiness".

RE: Which of the reputation components do you most often rate as

I do all 4 the same for most sites, but if a site isn't safe for children but the site is safe itself the Child Safety category differs. And if there are specific issues with a certain area I rate that one differently from the others.
Trustworthiness is of a higher priority than the others, though.

RE: Which of the reputation components do you most often rate as

Hum? Let's say all equally but in fact I don't really know.
A bad rating in "Trustworthiness" leads, usually for me, to a bad rating in all "categories", so "Trustworthiness" is not my answer.
On the other hand, when I rate "Trustworthiness", I do not necessarily evaluate all other components.
If the question was: "Which of the reputation components do you rate most often?". My answer would have been: "Trustworthiness" or "Child safety".

RE: Which of the reputation components do you most often rate as

It depends what`s on the website i`m looking at and how i`m treated if i need anything from it. Of if the website had found and started spamming me or not. Also many other reasons.

RE: Which of the reputation components do you most often rate as

Well it also depends on the site. If it is selling me stuff I would look at trustworthiness and vendor reliability. Any other site I would look at the overall score.
Or finding websites for kids would mean looking at child safety rating.

RE: Which of the reputation components do you most often rate as

What I have found is if I believe Trustworthiness is poor, concerning is the site overall safe to visit and download files that it negatively affects other ratings. For instances, if the site can't be trusted to visit because it has unsafe downloads, their are mitigating circumstances that affect the other ratings. Vendor Reliability should also bear the consequences of a poor Trustworthiness rating, because if the site can't be trusted to visit, the shopping and business reputation at least has to be considered.

Let's put it this way. I think it would be unrealistic to give a Poor Trustworthiness rating for a site and than an excellent rating for Vendor Reliability. If your site can't be trusted, the buying and selling of products and services, its Vendor Reliability has to be called into question until Trustworthiness can be improved.

Privacy: Is the site using secure encryption? (The web-lock activated in the browser for sensitive information.) This shows that they care about keeping a users' information private. Are there third-party tracking cookies? What is the site's privacy policy? Is it easy to understand? If a site is putting out third party-tracking cookies through our WOT community tests, that can also bring a Privacy rating down.

Child Safety should have it's own evaluation of whether the site is free of violent images and porn. But sites that have porn are often untrusted because they are loaded with viruses and spyware, which reverts back to Trustworthiness.

Due to the fact that I consider Trustworthiness, Privacy, and Vendor Reliability the most import ratings that aren't always easy to isolate, I originally thought Trustworthiness was the most noted category that I rate poor. However, in rethinking this, and the importance of how the ratings can influence the overall site experience for everyone, I changed my vote to All of The Above.

Not all sites need ssl, and it would be a mistake to rate sites on that basis unless there is a need for the site to have ssl, such as for the collection or transmission of PII via the site.

RE: Which of the reputation components do you most often rate as

There is no answer here since all sites that have issues may differ.
Though I'll rate a site that collects PII red faster then other issues if not secured or have a proper PP to explain their usage of such information. It takes a lot for me to rate a site 0 (zero) in every category.

I totally agree. There is no single function that I rate lower than the others more often than not. I'd also like an "Other" option.

When I rate a site, I base it on my experience with the site, and therefore my rating can be subject to change. If I had to guess, there are maybe two that I rate lower equally - Child Safety and Privacy. It could be that I'm a somewhat paranoid person - I've had experiences on the internet that I wish I hadn't had. Therefore I'm more prone to drop these two a bit to quench my paranoia.

When a site is obviously bad (phishing, malware, etc), yes, I'm going to rate it low in everything.

I reserve the right to reserve rights that have already been reserved. I think. Maybe.

  29. Child safety, of course. The most important thing on the web is that everyone's safe. Including kids.
Obviously, all components are very important.
