    RE: the biggest online threat to your safety

    ID theft is the greatest problem and this is augmented by security protocols that are too easily hacked.
    Fingerprint scanners on cellphones are being used as biometric means to prove identity, however this information can be hacked and once hacked, one can not use such protocols or software that relies on such, ever again.

    I wish someone would tell the South Korean Government that.

    RE: Big threats to online safety

    ID theft is a serious threat, but to be stolen it must first be given away. For that to happen, we, or someone whom we previously trusted with our credentials, must believe the recipient is trustworthy or the repository is secure. This usually requires social engineering - a confidence game that leverages human gullibility - or coercion.

    RE: What do you believe is the biggest OL threat to your safety?

    SCAMMERS ARE THIEVES: Read or scroll through these actual search results, not just look at the list of search results, if you want to educate yourself ... (Keeping the original page, is when another TAB becomes useful.)
    Millions Of Customers Info Stolen -- http://www.bing.com/search?q=millions+customers+info+stolen&qs=n&form=QBRE&pq=millions+customers+info+stolen&sc=0-0&sp=-1&sk=&cvid=E571AB5B48014635BE55C37DEC9A9056

    NEVER GIVE UP YOUR INDIVIDUAL VOICE GOD GAVE TO EACH OF US ~ OTHERWISE YOU BECOME A SLAVE OR WORKING SLUG

    There is a lot more to it than what makes the news and in our 'normal' everyday understanding - SCAMMERS are out to collect your personal, any identifiable information, and some want your money or banking information. Some even steal website codes, to trick people in thinking that they are at their online bank. ISIS steals lives. God HATES murderers! Read the Bible.

    FBI says that Facebook has been "The Ultimate Jewel Of Information" in finding illegal activity, individuals, and groups.

    The FBI and Facebook has partnered in sharing information, and they've installed programs that actually search out key words which helps them to find and locate people (or harass or arrest their friends). Usually criminals. But, the word "criminals" is being redefined (somewhat secretly). Just as some bad guys or thugs have beat up 'certain people' in alleys, soon the world will criminalize 'certain people' to be destroyed. It is coming! Just ask around, and especially talk to preachers. Some deny it, while others know that the Bible is being fulfilled for the last generation.

    Did you know that if you own a gun (or guns) and if there's any altercation on your property - police have the right to confiscate your guns? The guns/weapons don't even have to be mentioned in the altercation, and it doesn't matter if they are loaned out - Police have been instructed to take them away from you ASAP! Also, beware of your nosy neighbors that think that you're fighting and call for help! HELP?

    Soon, some laws will be changed into something worse. Soon that will become clear to most people, as then Christians will be added to the criminal list, for speaking about the agape love and truth of God, and against the sin and the lies of men (G0V) and how the anti-christ is coming soon to wreak havoc on the world as the right-hand man of the devil. God helps us! Jesus is our only Savior! Campers, RVs, mini-homes, as well as property, especially land big enough for digging home-style bunkers, are now sky-rocketing in sales as people look for safe places to hide. The Bible says that people will run and hide in the caves, hills and mountains before the anti-christ is revealed, as thousands are doing now.

    ANYWAY, STOP joining (and installing) every cute PROGRAM and VISITING every interesting website, and DON'T ADD every Facebook wall, and DO NOT ENTER every contest ~ UNLESS YOU RESEARCH FIRST TO CHECK THE LEGITIMACY OF A SITE. There are way too many scammers and crooked websites! SCAMMERS want your personal information, and some have loaded spyware in downloads/programs! Sadly, there are too many criminals online trying to make quick money illegally - If not YOUR MONEY, then they sell YOUR INFO and get paid for it. Some scammers are VERY SLY, and especially those committing internet bank robberies ~ in which most have been caught ~ and a few are still being hunted by the law (in Turkey, if I remember right). The worst scammers go after the unsuspecting, especially the elderly, tricking people into giving up lots of their money. It doesn't matter if it's online, a letter or in person. They have expanded their lying tactics in using "you've won" "free gift" "utility shut-off" "eviction for either sale of the property or a false exaggerated repair" - scams!

    Be Responsible and check WOT, or research if it is a brick and mortar store (ie. Sears, JCP/JC Penneys), or if 'the store' has hundreds of good reviews. (ie. NotArealStore.com, FreeStuff.at.Sears.com, FreeMoney-is-what-i-want.com - rogue site names would be ideal, but does not happen. This is why there are websites, like WOT (Web of Trust) to help protect us.

    NEVER trust a new store with a few reviews (-100 I would still avoid) as scammers sometimes wait until enough customers spends $$$$, and then they take the money, close up shop, and never send anything. Most of these quick websites are "Fly By Night" sites to be there just long enough to steal your info and/or your money ~ and they disappear when they get caught or people are writing them to much about their issues. I've ordered from questionable sites and I've had my money stolen, received a partial order or nothing at all. Usually, it's sudden or within days when the site won't exist anymore. Some will stay in business until the law catches up or attempts to file charges. Also, I've found scammers using a similar named website and the same contact info... go figure! Evidently, some are copying/using the codes, but not really thinking things through, if all of their marbles are present!

    I voted for stalking. While ID theft is more prevalent, stalking threatens your life while ID theft is targeting your money.

    "Bri" for short. Surf safely.

    A much more dangerous way of stalking. To most people, it hits them unnoticed.

    RE: What do you believe is the biggest OL threat to your safety?

    To respect2glory :::
    While I do appreciate the many useful hints about internet safety that you mention , i think it's amazingly bad taste to contaminate what would have been an otherwise excellent post with your misinformed , insane & paranoid delusions of persecution.

    =========================

    First ::: Your quote "Did you know that if you own a gun and if there's any altercation on your property - police have the right to confiscate your guns?"

    /// Did you know that that's an outright lie? Do you know where that nonsense came from?
    I'm guessing it's from a conspiracy theory video on YouTube : and we all know that everything on the internet MUST be true...
    ... don't we???

    =========================

    Second ::: Your comment : "... Christians will be added to the criminal list, for speaking about the agape love and truth of God, and against the sin and the lies of men .... .... as people look for safe places to hide. The Bible says that people will run and hide in the caves, hills and mountains before the anti-christ is revealed, as thousands are doing now."

    /// Care to tell me WHO is out to persecute the 70% Christian population of America ?? ... another YouTube video??
    Why are you quoting a 2000 year old prediction about hiding in caves when we haven't lived in them since biblical times?
    Where are these "caves" that we will run to?
    Do you know that it was written when The Romans were threatening the "new" religion and crucifying it's followers?
    It's Julius Caesar's Roman Army that we need to fear ! ... but they all died a long time ago.

    What does your local minister say about this pogrom of perceived genocide ? Ask him if you haven't done it yet.

    WOT is intended as an internet information source.
    Any future comments should be restricted to that subject ONLY !

    I refer you to Matthew 6 verses 5 & 6 ... read them again.

    RE: What do you believe is the biggest online threat to your saf

    It's all those many things hackers can do if you innocently click on a link, open e-mail, don't keep your computer's camera covered, don't use WOT, on and on…. That can lead to stalking, identity theft, and all the rest. The average user keeping "up-to-date" is already so far behind; even big business/governments can't keep safe.

    So the biggest online threat is me…using a computer or any device which touches the internet, my car, my refrigerator, my front door lock or anything else on the internet of things.

    RE: What do you believe is the biggest online threat to your saf

    I have been long critical of WOT for consistently underrating online spying and data mining. Many of the other concerns such as hacking, identity theft, stalking... can be dovetailed into this category.

    RE: What do you believe is the biggest online threat to your saf

    Bullying and hate speech are subjective and do not pose a real threat to me - I understand it can be serious people for young kids and teens. Similarity I don't worry about online stalking except where it leads to physical stalking. identify theft can have a significant impact on people's lives - financial loss, arrest, job loss, etc.

    RE: What do you believe is the biggest online threat to your saf

    Identity theft is a huge problem, just because there's so much someone could do with your stolen identity/account/etc. They could do something such as drain your bank account so you go bankrupt, do something to get money for themselves, or just use the identity to commit a crime online and land you in jail.

    RE: What do you believe is the biggest online threat to your saf

    I have personally known people whose identities were stolen and it was a not-so-good experience for them because of all the unnecessary hassles they had to do to prove the legitimacy of their stolen identity.
