Folding@Home Distributed computing from Stanford University. The goal of this is to understand protein folding/misfolding and diseases. By running the software, users are helping scientists with research about the diseases. Very useful.

Work unit info is out in the open for anyone to see.. or even take. They need a password protection system so that only the users and their teams can see the stats, not the world...
