Used to be an excellent site for keeping up to date with Mac applications, however apparently they are now wrapping some applications in their own installer which is installed adware/bloatware and other crap you do NOT want.

All they have done is destroy their own reputation and push more people to only using the AppStore as the safest software repository.

Generally a good site, but often outdate, many broken links, and their own software (some of it) includes adware as of May 13, 2016.

So far so good, I purchased two items on discount from MacUpdate. I hope the license keep working well. I never contacted the original owner of the software that's why I am little concerned about it's legit operations. Please post if you find anything wrong with your purchases. I trust the website based on it's content only, basically looks legit to me.

Regarding "Adware" .. I purchased two items in March' 2016. No ADWAREs found. Seems very real.

Just this morning (10/31/15) for the first time ever I found that MacUpdate is packaging other software inside the installer for the actual app I wanted to update. At first it wanted me to change my search engine to Yahoo and I had to decline or skip that option. Then the default was to also install MacBooster in addition to the actual app I wanted. I'm very, very disappointed in MacUpdate!! I also believe that kids will not look too closely at what they are doing when installing an app from MacUpdate and may unwittingly change settings or install software they don't want or need.

The only problem with this site is that to sign in, your Username & PW are sent in the clear! I cannot believe they have never corrected this.

I bought some software and the experience of purchasing was excellent.

Be very cautious purchasing a product from this company! I purchased an application bundle from them in March and six-months later they used my credit card information without my consent to auto-enroll me in their paid membership service of $20 per year. Presumably hoping that after this length of time I would not notice this charge.

They have some good deals and all that, but if you have ever bought anything from them, check your account preferences. On the right hand bar there will be a slider that indicates whether you would like them to use your credit card to "auto-renew" your membership, it defaults to ON.

I gave them a decent rating on all counts except for Trustworthiness, for which they get a 0. I expect that my credit card information is only used by reputable companies to purchase products and services with my specific consent. I find this action by them underhanded and disingenuous.

This program scans your computer and gives you false reports about programs that are bad for your computer and need to be removed (even the programs that come installed with your Mac before you buy it).
