Like Manta.com and others, this company is an opportunistic aggregator of business listings such as in YellowPages, but the site is not dangerous. It's somewhat useful for back-links; but since listings are not current, I "claimed" my business listing to make it current. MerchantCircle's free features work properly without many of the quirks found on similar sites. I use only the free features, so I know nothing of the paid ones.
Looking at some of the other comments: you can control the amount of contact you have with them by enabling or disabling various marketing preferences from the dashboard.
This company is locally owned and operated and is not a part of any conglomerate! The site contains no tracking or 3rd party cookies or pop-ups. Submitted information is never shared with any 3rd party.
merchantcircle's listing for our club has consistently placed our actual website lower in googles rankings. In effect they are holding our url for ransom. For a fee they will stop redirecting. There needs to be an authority were complaints like this can be addressed.
The phone # on all the possible places to contact them is not just busy, it just immediately drops your call. You never get anyone unless you go through the backdoor somehow. The site??? If you click on one property, it forces you to select 3 sites to choose from and does a sneaky redirect to other 3rd part sites. You don't get any information from this site, only phishing for email addresses. I've heard very, very bad things about these people and their practices. If you can't "Answer your phone" that.. it's a pretty big black mark.
I have my horseback riding program listed on this sight and have had no problems. I also dealt with the robot, but that was to make sure there was an actual phone number for the business and it wasn't a fake. I a decent amount of business from MerchantCircle.

You see a phone number to call for this company and they want to charge you $37.00 just to call for customer service and $40.00 more to remove your listing that never gets removed.
If you type in your company’s name, you see Merchant Circle’s crappy posting. It’s like a virus you can’t kill!
This company is part of a media conglomerate called Global Crossing Telecommunications that operate under many different names. They link with Yahoo to offer services such as internet coupon and business reviews that favor the company. If a customer leaves an unflattering review of a restaurant, they give the owner the heads up to delete it before posting (for a fee I'm sure.)Their bate is ads for free stuff - even money for college, They prey on social networks, use Career Builders, surveys, whatever. Armed with your info, they will spam you or call incessantly. Rule of thumb: if the caller ID # is out of service and the call back mail box is full, it's a scam.
