I'm like a kid in a candy store visiting this website. I love nirsoft software and find it very useful for automation. It's light and simple yet powerful and advanced at the same time. Much of the software has a 64bit versions available. I read some of the negative ratings here on WOT and have to point out a lot of what is picked up is based on algorithms that scanners use to detect trojans and virus based on how the software interact with processes. For example a packet sniffer might look like a trojan attempting to intercept data when that was the actual purpose of the packet sniffer but not for malicious reasons. These are called "False Positives" and the software is actually safe but just triggering the behavior that the scanner is looking for. Another example would be a cdkey viewer; The way it looks up the passwords that are stored on your machine would look malicious to the scanner but the scanner doesn't know the user is purposefully trying to do that. Nirsoft has software available here that will allow you to monitor software and how it interacts with the operating system (such as changes to registry or file structure) so you could use their own software to monitor their own software and see its not dangerous. I have a high technical understanding and tried to explain that in a simplictic way so forgive me haha but to be clear Nirsoft software doesn't phone home etc... I have a hardware firewall, I would see it. This site and the software it host is safe and I'm a returning visitor that has used them for years without issue. Those of you getting a lot of false positives might want to reconsider their anti-virus software choice and/or submit the files in question to the anti-virus providers for review (if your software doesn't support this feature you should contact that provider directly via its support channels). As of now the WoT rating is at an overly whelming positive score of 93% for trust and 93% positive score for Child Safety. If you think nirsoft is unsafe you are clearly in the minority and it's your loss.
I was first introduced to nirsoft when I stumbled upon nircmd which allowed me to create a shortcut on my desktop to turn my monitor off on demand by simply double-clicking. Why did I want to do that? No I wasn't paranoid.... My monitor had to go through an annoying menu system to switch modes and by invoking its sleep state I took advantage of how it would check other video inputs to see if another video signal was active and if so the monitor would switch to that input source instead. My monitor was connected to two different PCs with different video cables (via HDMI to the first and DVI to the second). The shortcut set the monitor to sleep on PC1 and then also executed a bat file to forward my keyboard and mouse to PC2 all at the same time the screen was going into its sleep state and checking for the second monitors video signal. End results was it allowed me to swap between both PCs at will since I set this up on PC2 in reverse. Why 2 PCs? Simple: I AM a developer and the second PC was my development rig/media server hybrid and the first was my personal gaming rig. This strategy stomped solutions like remote desktop and VNC which are slow. I tried other monitor tools before but they didn't work and nircmd was exactly what I needed to accomplish this! I am a very strong supporter of FOSS (Free Open Source Software) and thats the only flaw/con I see with nirsoft software but thats a small gripe in comparison to the value of what nirsoft and its software has to offer. Keep up the good work!
