This site uses pop-ups when you try to leave their site and web bugs. The site owners also help drive down the already tiny profit margins of musicians, resulting in less profit for the people that create the music:
Per Gabriel Kahane on facebook: "I recently received a royalty check from Spotify for $17.23 for 38,809 plays, which is the equivalent of roughly 3880 full album spins. By contrast, when I sell a CD or LP on Bandcamp, the gross is $15 or 18, respectively. After factoring in manufacturing costs, Bandcamp's 10% cut, and shipping and handling, it takes me just TWO sales to achieve the $17.23 I got from Spotify for those 38,809 plays. By that logic, I would say that Bandcamp is 1,900 times more profitable than Spotify, not eight times more profitable.
