Very useful for the artist, photographer, or writer for sharing works.

Though there are nudity and graphic imagery filters, a few risque and gory pics manage to slip through. I would not recommend this site for young children.

In the last 2 weeks I've been infected by 2 viruses from DeviantArt. I believe they are coming from the ad banners on the site. I think the adblocker + and noscript addons for Firefox will provide sufficient protection but wouldn't use DeviantArt without them.

Deviant Art is increasingly becoming a haven for drive-by downloads and pop-up ads. It's also developing a problem with favoritism among its moderators and a very vague, mercurial set of policies which are unevenly enforced.
Worse, though, is the recent trend towards moving previously free features to pay features and a rash of virus-laden advertisements that have shown in the past few months

Also, adult content can be hidden through child settings.

Deviant Art is a wonderful site and a great way for art students to keep an online portfolio and gallery of their work. Deviant Art is to amature artists what You Tube is to amature movie makers, but better. :) Best of all having an account is free and artists can also sell their work from the site too.

Great art site, but the presence of adult content makes it inapropriate for children.
Great for selling prints, but gives you a relativly small cut of the profits.

The sites' mature content filter is very easy to trick, a lot of images are not caught by it and a lot of times, outright pornography is allowed due to ambiguous phrasing of the rules.
