Gaia is a creative community designed specifically for teens. Its forums are very diverse and populated.
GaiaOnline itself is completely safe and takes many precautions to assure security. However, it still faces the same problems as other social networks.
GaiaOnline is fun yet dangerous most other comments are correct its fun and safe, Safe as in the Admins of the site wont post anything offense, sexual, etc. The other users however can and WILL post whatever they wish. Here is the deal if you trust your child let them play on the site all you want, but otherwise block it.
The forums often have large amounts of sexual content.
A website for playing games, dressing up avatars, and socializing with other users - discuss music, anime, movies, a wide variety of subjects. Occasionally contains adult commentary by users on the forums, despite the site's aim to be a PG-13 site. Fine for users old enough to handle such occasional content.
Bad experience, my daughter is a online games fanatic, downloaded gaia toolbar and VIRTUMUNDOE VUNDO WHATEVER IT IS DESTROYED my compute, had to reboot and start from scratch, destroyed back up files on seperate resources. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Gaia is a great social website. I go on it a lot. You can make your own mini house and take care of your own virtual aquarium. That's all i can think of right now.Bye
I won't say that gaia is bad but its safe for the kids. Gaia has very everthing that you ever want it. It like the Japaneses version of myspace but for kids and anime fans. You can submit art, picture, peoms and other stuff true. I am not say that its 100% but you need to watch out what you are doing in that site or you will be sorry,
Gaia is a good website if you are old enough to handle the mature content and disrespect of other members. The Mods are slow to respond - if they ever do at all - there is sexual content, and plenty of scams. They will also ban you for no reason.
Gaia Online is a great website to visit. It's fun for people of all ages. It has entertaining games, and can keep you in touch with your friends. However, it does have some security risks.
Such as:
(1. Pedophiles (as do most sites)
(2. Large Site Syndrome (Moderators just don't seem to care about each individual user.)
(3. Threats of violence.
If you know where to go, it's a fine website. There are scammers, but very few actual hackers. If you're not stupid and don't post your personal information, and use a secure password that you don't drop hints at, you're fine. There's forums that do contain hazardous content, but those can be avoided. Gaia's age limit is 13 anyway, I think, so if someone younger is on there, it's the adults problem. Gaia is no more dangerous than any other teen website out there, parents need always supervise their children if they're afraid of online predators. Gaias moderation staff is comprised of exemplary users, and so the work for a few million users is going to be slow.
MattLee is right, the state of this site is horrible. And the majority of new users are getting younger and younger. All in all though, it's a blast if your lucky enough to get into the right circles/threads.
this site is designed for 13+ as only 13+ should be only able to sign up for the site.
as always you yourself have to monidor your children to make sure that they are safe. WOT is a tool to do so.
as for the supposed hacks. there were quite a few, but mostly its now users trying to get items and or gaia cash from people that feel sorry for them.
I am on GaiaOnline pretty much daily, and never have I experienced a better website. It is easily navigable, the staff try to minimize the amount of adult content to be seen, and it is easy to get support from the staff and admins.
@geodex that's why they have to send your cash in don' t use paypal > But you can go your own why . Becased i have never brought it but i have studied from the pages
Gaia has added Instant Message to it's Private Message system. Making completely unsafe for any minor with a cell phone. It doesn't seem like a big deal until you think about how easy it will be for a child to easily go past a online friendship into an "adult" relationship via their cell phone.
Until this issue is resolved I'm forced to greatly decrease my rating of this site.
