Sourceforge has started packaging malware and PUPs with apps listed there. The GIMP owners removed their software from Sourceforge, but it replaced it with a package stuffed full of malware along with the program.
Very dodgy, and getting a bad rep very quickly.
SourceForge is like any other downloads site I've been to: Some downloads are good, some are BAD. I don't generally use it too often, but when I do, I make sure look at the installers pretty damn closely. If you don't do that, it's not just the site you should blame... it's your ability to rush through things. However, I should note this: if they have been bundling shittty adware or malware, I'm sorry for giving this a generally good rating. I'm seriously sick of this trend where download sites like CNET begin to think they need MORE money, so they start bundling adware, and/or malware. It's a sad, sad, destructive trend that needs to die as fast as it started, and it's even worse that it refuses to die.
SITE OWNERS TAKE NOTE OF THIS: Do not bundle malware and/or adware or any other malicious programs with the programs on your website! It will ruin your site and nobody will trust you. On the other hand, if you are like Soft32, and enjoy the sheer joy of fucking people's time, money, and/or computers GO FUCK YOURSELF.
Very dangerous site.....do not download anything from here.

It appears that +SourceForge took over the control of the 'GIMP for Windows' account and is now distributing an ads-enabled installer of GIMP. They also locked out original owner of the account, Jernej Simončič, who has been building the Windows versions of GIMP for our project for years.
So far they haven't replied to provide explanations. Therefore, we remind you again that GIMP only provides builds for WIndows via its official Downloads page.
Once a fantastic service, these assholes have started using dodgy downloader software.

Old sourceforge was a relatively good site but the new one is not. Site owner changed and new owners often add adware and even trojans to the hosted software. Be VERY careful before downloading anything. Check if there a official download site for the thing you want to download and consider using it instead of sourceforge.
Great knowledge and supercool projects. This site can safe yourself really a lot of work. Thank you guys for your support. I try to give something back one day but i feel that sorry, that im not one of this superclever guys.. :-)
SourceForge has started promoting malware/PUP installers in place of abandoned projects according to a recent Ars Technica report. Also see what happened to the GIMP project: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-developer-list/2015-May/msg00144.html
They also take over "abandoned" projects (that have moved elsewhere) without notifying the owner: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/06/black-mirror-sourceforge-has-now-siezed-nmap-audit-tool-project/
WARNING: Since few days Sourceforge started to put trojans and adware into installers of many trusted applications. Here is more information:

DONT DOWNLOAD FROM SOURCEFORGE!
Gone downhill - now tries to profit off open-source software by wrapping other people's work in malware.
Whenever possible download from somewhere more trustworthy.
If you download from Sourceforge read the "options" very very carefully so you don't get opted in to something regrettable...
Sourceforge used to be a reference for open source project hosting.
They have been taking over GIMP and nmap project accounts, and seems to bundle open source projects with adware…
See for nmap : http://it.slashdot.org/story/15/06/03/126224/nmap-maintainer-warns-he-doesnt-control-nmap-sourceforge-mirror
See (in French) for GIMP : http://linuxfr.org/news/sourceforge-de-pire-en-pire-usurpation-d-identite-du-projet-gimp
Moreover, I wish you good luck to find the right download button in the middle of the fake one coming from ads…
Sourceforge has taken over accounts for projects, and embedded malware in downloads. They serve 'download button ads' that confuse users and can install malware. And are engaged in unethical practices.
Sourceforge, once a trusted website to download a number of open-source projects, has been sold to new owners that package adware etc with their downloads. They also have begun taking over so-called "abandoned" projects that have moved to other sites (i.e. github and others) but are still actively maintained. They package adware with these projects as well.
Do not download anything from this site.

SF is currently hosting adawares. Look at the recent Gimp incident like on http://tech.slashdot.org/story/15/06/01/1241231/sourceforge-and-gimp-updated and http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/05/sourceforge-grabs-gimp-for-windows-account-wraps-installer-in-bundle-pushing-adware/ ... :(
