I use YouTube for a few things, like In Living Color, ETC. But, there are plenty of adults only vids in YouTube. Do not let your 5 year old go onto YouTube.
While some people think that youtube isn't safe, and that their kids watched "adult videos" if you click on one that has matter in it unsuitable for children it will say "You have to be 18 to see this." If your kids sign up, they have to be at least 13, and if they are under 18 and say they are 18, well thats your problem. If your kid says he is going to sign up for a youtube account, make sure you monitor him while he/she does it. You can also easily see their history, by clicking their profile and going to "Browsing history"
Youtube is a really entertaining site with tons of videos and users from all over the world. But I don't believe that this site is really child-friendly and might contain offensive and adult content.
A lot of entertainment possibilities, from simple three-second funny clips to lengthy documentaries. However, some of the content is not appropriate for younger viewers. YouTube tries to prevent this with requiring registration, but if a child registers, he/she has access to all of it: violence, porn, pranks, etc. But, don't let that slow down this amazing site!
