Is expedia.com Safe?

I booked this flight and then had to cancelled due to covid nationwide flight cancellations prevalent during that time. I was advised that there were no penalties due to the airlines having to cancel hundreds of flights during that period. I have reviewed my cancellation confirmation and do not see an expiration date on the confirmation. I attempted to redeem these credits in May of 2022 due to a medical emergency but was told by the airlines that Expedia controlled that process since I purchased tickets through Expedia. The airline did refund the extra fees such as baggage and seating. I went thru the redemption process with Expedia and was told I could not redeem any credits due to the system being broken. I traveled to my destination by driving due to the emergency. I am now aware that Expedia will forfeit my credits on the 29th of this month without any warning or alternatives offered. my position is that when I tried to redeem the credits and Expedia was not able to provide them so any agreements that I was unaware of has been breached by Expedia for non-delivery of legitimate and timely requested credits. When speaking with a Manager in Expedia customer service, I was told that he was the highest authority and didn’t report to anyone. I hope that is not the case because the 2 hour plus discussion, most of which I spent on hold, was very unsatisfactory. It appeared to me that his only objective was to wear me down so I would abandon the call. This was clear in his repeated admonishment that if I was to hang up any consideration he may offer would not be honored. I have yet to have Expedia acknowledge that these credits were not claimed due to there failure to provide them when requested.

Overall happy, website experience could be much improved, but I'm sure they have their reasons for the current layout (optimizing for something) I don't like that many times hotels are treating expedia orders like second rate, and the process of changing dates, etc... can sometimes be tiresome, as well as vague value of points, but so far helped organize trips with multiple stops, etc... and doesn't look like any of the alternatives are much better.

Their privacy policy is a tad LESS of a massacre than many similar sites BUT: They already have collected data from others who snooped on you. If you enable any social media integration they get the right to harvest the data on your friends- with that much data they know EVERYTHING! It appears they pass on slightly less data than some competitors- but they don't restrict what 3rd parties do with it. That one is BIG! They do use LSO supercookies. Some of their opt-outs are a bit better than many competitors. Using it through a phone may be unwise and you probably want to shut geolocation off.

I have used Expedia twice in recent months for flights to both Orlando and San Francisco. I am confident that the prices I found my flights for were the lowest available to me via the Internet.  Additionally, I had to change my flight home (from Florida) through United Airlines directly and was worried about receiving flak using a third party. However, it was handled accordingly.
