"WOT suspect"
Tried downloading the program. Firewall notification indicated that Wajam wanted internet access. I have removed Wajam from several computers at the office recently. Wajam apparently downloaded approximately 1,000 malware entries on each computer causing slowdowns and opening the door for other malware products. including toolbars, tracking programs, etc.. Bad program. Bad site.
This is a top search result on Google for File viewers (probably because of the URL) the software seems ok but it is loaded with a bunch of crapware and programs you're not going to want to have install on your computer EVEN if you are careful and disagree to all of the tricky prompts. This one is free for a reason.
This universal file viewer actually works! Really, I didn't get any offers when installing this. Maybe it's just luck, but UNCHECK every offer that comes with it. Otherwise, it is a great program.
Worst. Site. Ever. You say the extras are optional? I only saw the option to not install bing search engine? I got 24x7 help (Malware), PcFixSpeed (Malware), and mobogeine (Malware), and I'm still looking for more malware/spyware. AND I have Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome, and it corrupted my Google chrome. Not that I use it much... AND I had to go into safe mode to even run my AVG 2013 without errors from malware. And yet you call it safe?
It installed five additional programs besides the Free Fileviewer program, There was no mention of these programs in their descriptions. Also if I had not checked the "Advanced" button, it would have installed an unwanted Toolbar, changed my Homepage, and changed my default search Engine. My anti-virus program detected a security-risk called "suspicious cloud9". This program also hijacked my Browser. Even though I opted-out of making it my home page, IT DID anyway and it changed my Browser settings so as to allow IT to be my default SEARCH page. It took days to remove all the extra programs it installed. I was able to get my Fire Fox browser back to normal after several hours, not so much with IE. NO Thanks to this freebie.
I would recommend avoiding this software. The only reason I installed this on 10/10 was that a) Microsoft recommended it, b) it had a positive reputation with web of trust and c)Norton did not give a warning.
My experience, however was extremely negative. Midway through installing, a website tried to load that WOT advised was dangerous which I had never seen prior to this installation and several programs I opted out of installing proceeded to install. I immediately uninstalled the programs but every time I attempted to launch a browser, it took me to a website that is defined as dangerous.
A little searching revealed that I had a browser hijacker, thanks to this software. I have spent the last few days trying to clean my system of the everything bundled with this software. I am leaving feedback for this software in the hopes that it will save someone from a similar experience
Mr Bassmusson:
The FreeFileViewer from Bitberry Software definitely contains this adware: Adware.InstalIQ.B.
In a scan,It was even infected with Worm.Generic.373270.
Fix these 2 and please stop harping around as to how great the utility is. Thank you!
I used Free File Viewer for about a year with little problems. Recently, I received a notice that an update was available. I downloaded the update offerred by clicking on the
"Download" link and went through the process. Shortly thereafter, I was plagued by several unwanted items of ADWare/MalWare/Spyware. I ran my antivirus programs and found several other items were infecting my computer. After cleaning up the problems, I have completely UNINSTALLED the Free File Viewer. If you download the setup file, I recommend you scan it BEFORE you install it AND then RESCAN your whole computer before you do anything else after installing it.
Installed a lot of unwanted wallpapers and did not work as described. After uninstalling, a lot of undesirable things remained necessitating a System Restore.
be very careful after downloading this program i had adware. i did a spybot scan and i found 11 entries of fraud. did another scan and found 2 more entries. i guess if its free its dangerous.
It is simply not true the Free File Viewer contains viruses.
Yes, it offers additional products during installation, but all are 100% optional. The installer is TRUSTe certified, and all offers are tested thoroughly and all must conform with the TRUSTe Trusted Download program.
If you have gotten a virus alert, it is most likely a false positive and I would very much like to hear what anti-virus product caused it and look into it immediately.
And yes, I am the author of the product.
I was directed here from ***** (which I was sent to try to open an unknown file type), so i presume that it was good, but seeing this WOT card I swiftly did a system restore
